Mystery, Suspense, and Detective Mystery Parodies

The word “Parody” means a humorous exaggerated imitation or ode to a writer, artist, person, or genre. These are comedies that parody mysteries, suspense (with a mystery or detective story in it aka, you know who the killer is before the detective does) and detective mysteries. Also by the word “mystery”, ghost stories too are included since some of the classic ghost stories had a mystery story that needed to be figured out in them, like the serious stories “The Turn Of The Screw”, and “The Uninvited” (1944) and “The Uninvited” (2009). (Two different ghost stories with the same title). Which of these movies parodying mystery, detective, and suspense movies is the best? Follow funny clues here to discuss it. P.S. Since three of the entries are based on the same play and I wanted the people to know that, I had included all the “based on” credits here. Why single out just three films and exclude all the others? Besides, it promotes reading too, if people are interested in reading the source material.

Love's Strange With Lea Thompson

In the mid-80's, Lea Thompson starred in both the famous and the infamous of science-fiction, Back to the Future (1985) and Howard the Duck (1986). The two films didn't exactly get the same reception and recognition throughout the years, but what they had in common, besides the genre, was that they both starred Lea Thompson and in both films, she was involved in quite disturbing romances. Granted Lorraine didn't know Marty was her son and Howard was an 'anthropomorphic' duck; it's quite difficult to overlook the Oedipal and 'interspecial' undertones of each relationship... regardless of your personal appreciation of each film. Which of these two romances, culminating with one cringe-worthy kiss, was the most disturbing? After voting, you might discuss the list here

Ridiculous Movie Plots

It's important to come into any film with a certain level of imagination, a suspension of disbelief if you will, but these movies just tried to stretch that potential a little bit too far. Which of these films, and their insane plots, were you most surprised of to be successfully pitched and subsequently made? This is not asking which execution is the worst but rather just looking at the sheer absurdity and over-the-topness of the storyline. After voting, you may discuss the poll here.

The Buckeye State Movies

The Buckeye State is the official nickname of Ohio. Many buckeye trees once covered Ohio's hills and plains. The name "buckeye" stems from Native Americans, who called the nut "hetuck," which means "buck eye", because the markings on the nut resemble the eye of a deer (source: statesymbolsusa.org). Ohio became the 17th state of the United States of America in 1803. These movies have a connection with Ohio. They are (partially) filmed there or it's a topic in the story.
