Westerns That Aren't Westerns
The definitions of abstract concepts like genres can be notoriously hard to pin down, so, rather than leave everybody to fight amongst themselves about what exactly a "western" or a "thriller" is, IMDb has thoughtfully provided us with official definitions on their help page. What is their definition of "Western"? Read on: Should contain numerous scenes and/or a narrative where the portrayal is similar to that of frontier life in the American West during 1600s to contemporary times. Objective. In other words, the basic criteria for being a Western is based on time and place: the American West in the frontier era. This is easy enough to apply to things like The Searchers (1956) or Gunsmoke (1955-1975), titles that fit neatly within those parameters. But what about those movies and TV shows that happen to meet some, but not all, of the criteria? What about the pieces of media that only vaguely, kinda sorta fit the bill? Not one single title on this list is officially recognized as a "Western" by IMDb. Yet, every last one of them has some significant connection to the genre. The question is, which of these films/TV series do you think is the best example of a Western... that's not a Western? After voting, please discuss here. Movies Made by Alternate Directors - Part 2
Scripts are passed around frequently in Hollywood. There are often many movie makers who become attached to a project before the script ends up in the lap of the eventual director of the movie. Below are movies that were close to being made by different directors. Some were fired during production, others couldn’t get the ball rolling, a few lost interest, and in one case the director died before he could make the movie. Which of the following movies made by alternate directors would you have been most interested in seeing? See part one here Discuss the list here

Best Movie That Scores an A+ With Audiences?
A word of mouth recommendation or condemnation for a film is worth ten critic reviews to most moviegoers. Based on that principle, Cinemascore was born and Hollywood has listened closely ever since. The entertainment market research company surveys moviegoers at major movie releases every opening night. Their polls condense movie related ratings and demographic information into a single distinctive CinemaScore grade measuring a movies' appeal among theater audiences. A coveted "A+" from Cinemascore score from opening night theater audiences is a rare occurrence. "A+" scores mean strong word of mouth business, repeated viewings and are the best industry guarantee of box office success. Since 1982, about ninety films have received the top mark averaging to about two movies per year.
