Nike’s Laurel Wreath of Victory Goes to _____

Besides being the name of a shoe company, Nike is the Greek goddess of Victory, Speed and Strength (the Greek valued the last two in that order). She awarded the Laurel wreath of victory to winners in sports contests and in battle. When it came to war, she was Zeus’ chariot driver. She is the only winged Greek goddess. Her symbol is the same symbol that the shoe company uses. It represents her wings. Which of these 6.9 or better films that represents one of her attributes (contest or war victory, and contests of speed, and strength) would she give her award, the Laurel Wreath of Victory, to? Or better yet, you get to complete the sentence “And Nike’s Laurel Wreath of Victory goes to ______.” Submit your contestant’s entry forms here. Remember the contestant has to be 6.9 or higher and over 20,000 votes. You just can’t have slop representing a goddess. Why 6.9? That is the rating of the film that actually has her symbol appearing in it!

Ten Key Milestones in WW2 Timeline

Why does World War 2 fascinate so much? There are many reasons for that: the war has impacted history so significantly no one can possibly imagine our modern world without its influence. Secondly, many images are part of our universal heritage: Hitler spitting his hatred to cheering crowds, Churchill's broadcasted speeches, Spitfires fighting Messerschmitts, the "Day of Infamy", bombed cities, the nuclear mushroom, resisting civilians and skeletal people in striped pajamas carrying in haggard gazes the horrifying mark of human barbarity. All these elements have inspired since the end of the war countless movies and documentaries, among them many masterpieces and maybe WW2's edge over WW1 is its narrative. The various key moments that punctuated these six bloody years were the kinds of turning points that made the reality even more dramatic than fiction. And the narrative is even more effective because the enemy's actions were pretty horrific and ultimately, the good side won (though calling it a clean victory would be an offense to the civilian casualties). Anyway, not asking for an objective historical answer but just your personal opinion, here are 10 key milestones in the WW2 timeline, ranked in chronological order: which one do you consider the most dramatic or important? After voting, you might discuss the list here (the images might not totally correspond to the option's title) This poll was inspired by the Apocalypse series

Which of the following movies delivered the most epic depiction of a real historic battle? Vote also for: Greatest Naval Battle on Screen Discuss the list here

Operation Pied Piper

Operation Pied Piper was the code name of the program the British did in World War 2 to get the children out of London and coastal areas and move them into the country during the Battle Of Britain and the Blitzkrieg. Some children had stayed in London. Some operations like this were done in Europe by private individuals to get Jewish refugees out of Axis occupied Europe and Asia. Some children were caught and sent to prison or concentration camps. These are films ranging from animated musicals, to fantasy, to comedy, to gritty war dramas that deal with this part of WW2: how children lived through that war. I will include both sides of that war. Which one is your favorite? (I will start with the fantasy films showing part of Operation Pied Piper and then move to the more realistic and grittier war dramas.) Follow the Piper here to discuss the topic.
