Movies Made by Alternate Directors - Part 2

Scripts are passed around frequently in Hollywood. There are often many movie makers who become attached to a project before the script ends up in the lap of the eventual director of the movie. Below are movies that were close to being made by different directors. Some were fired during production, others couldn’t get the ball rolling, a few lost interest, and in one case the director died before he could make the movie. Which of the following movies made by alternate directors would you have been most interested in seeing? See part one here Discuss the list here

Unfilmable

There have always been books which forced the impression to be unfilmable. But then some producers, directors, and writers came and showed that the stuff is not unfilmable. We all know that the 'Lord of the Rings' franchise was one of these "so-to-say" big unfilmable ideas, but at the end it became a highly acclaimed movie series. Which of these movies and tv-series that seemed to be unfilmable rocked it the most? (Or Which do you think will rock it the most? - For productions that are still not released.) Tell us here.

Road Trip! 1980+ Edition

You get to tag along a road trip with one of the following groups - which one do you choose? Not (necessarily) the best or your favorite movie - it's the group you'd most like to hang out a few days on their road trip. Inspired by http://www.imdb.com/list/-sZYHX7NdC8/ You get to (roughly) experience what they experienced in the movie (for better or worse). To keep it to a reasonable number of items, I am applying the following constraints: * There are at least two "central" characters but no more than three people already on the road trip, you are the 3rd (or 4th, * The movie is about an era that is 1980s or more recent. * The main characters spend a fair amount of time in a vehicle. * Are live action and not science fiction/fantasy (not animated or puppets) Because the list is limited to 35 items, there are valid entries that would probably not be plausible choices for anyone (e.g. they're basically awful or horrific experiences), so I've roughly chosen the more popular entries by moviemeter.
