The Canes Festival
"There's the cane from 'Citizen Kane'. Wait a minute, there was no cane in 'Citizen Kane'! You're right, Lisa Simpson, but there was a cane in many other movies and TV shows, and although we can't really call them 'canes' in the orthodox meaning of the word, let's accept any walking stick (of magical or deadly power) as a technical cane. So, let's start the Canes' Festival (yeah, it wasn't a typo) and ask the question: Which of these memorable TV/movie characters with a cane is your favorite? Want to discuss the list? Actresses So Good at Being Bad
The expression 'good at being bad' has often been used for the likes of Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Hugo Weaving... in other words: "actors". But ladies also had their share of fun playing the bad ones, from the horrible and scary to the grandiose and funny, from the flamboyant witches to the manipulative (well, the word that rhymes...). While they also garnered acclaim by playing good characters, all these distinguished actresses elicited strong responses by playing villains - at least four memorable cinematic villains. Which of these 'villain' actresses is simply the best at being bad? After voting, you might discuss the list here *Oscar-nominated performance
FYC, AFI - The Next Top 50 Villains
This is the first of a poll series whose purpose is to anticipate the inclusions in the next American Film Institute's Top 25, 50 or 100 lists. As you may know, many lists date back to the late 1990s and early 2000s and while the inclusions are satisfying, the absences severely date them. We will start with AFI's Top 50 villains aired on 2003 with Alonzo Harris from Training Day (2001) as the most recent character. So we'll consider movies from 2003 till today whose villains fit the AFI's criteria in terms of cultural impact: characters who have a made a mark on American society in matters of style and substance, and legacy: characters who elicit strong reactions across time, enriching America's film heritage while continuing to inspire contemporary artists and audiences. In the eventuality of a new AFI's Top 50 villains, which of these memorable post-2003 screen villains would be your top choice for an inclusion (as high as possible)? After voting, you might discuss the list here
