Face-Off: Novel vs. Nostalgia
If Mad Men (2007)'s Don Draper were the Chief Marketing Officer of a major studio, he would argue that new or nostalgia are the most potent traits a movie can offer the public. Novel cinematic experience: Movies are like a spaceship and promise moviegoers the glitter, the flash and excitement of a fresh experience through an unfamiliar world or time, a new method of filming, an unusual script, etc. that we haven't experienced before. Nostalgic cinematic experience: Movies are like a time machine engaging moviegoers by forming a sentimental bond and a nostalgic yearning. Such as remakes of popular childhood movies and TV series, as well as period movies that remind us of the happiness of an earlier time and place. Given the choice of seeing two equally well-made movies, one offering a novel cinematic experience or one offering a nostalgic cinematic experience, which experience do you find more powerful? Big big thanks to urbanemovies I couldn't do it without him Discuss here

Siskel, Ebert and the IMDb Poll Board's Potential Theatres' Names
During one of Siskel and Ebert's early Sneak Previews (1975), the two critics asked each other that question: If you owned a movie theater, what would you call it?. Siskel liked the word "Paradise", Ebert went for "The MacGuffin". Asked the same question, each IMDb Poll Board user suggested a potential name, either with an personal connection, a sentimental movie-related value or just because it sounded too good not to be picked. Now, which of these movie theatres, if they really existed, would you be the most interested to go to? Discuss here
If one cinematic skill could improve my life ...

The Moment Is Gone?
Anita Ekberg, known mainly for her role in La Dolce Vita (1960), wasn't the greatest actress (not bad either) but she was there, in the fountain, like it's some Midsummer Night Dream, looking like an angel. She more than anyone symbolizes "the cinematic moment." A moment in a film, that you can freeze and save, like a time capsule. We can close our eyes and imagine Humphrey Bogart breaking up with Ingrid Bergman there in the airport, Rocky Balboa raising his hands, and even two animated dogs sharing spaghetti with each other in Lady and the Tramp (1955). We remember all these scenes like they're paintings of famous artists and in great detail. There's a feeling that "the cinematic moment" is gradually disappearing since the beginning of the 21st century, for numerous reasons. Do you think "the cinematic moment" era is gone? Discuss here
