  • There's not much difference between "The Hughleys" and most other sitcoms that have a family at its center. In fact, this shows borrows heavily from the plot of "The Jefferson" in that Darryl's character is a guy from the inner city who built up a successful company for himself, and his wife Yvonne, who knows how to keep her husband in check when needed. They even have white neighbors, with whom Darryl can verbally spar with.

D.L. Hughley is extremely funny when he's doing standup comedy as proven when he was the host of BET's "Comic View" and most recently, in "The Original Kings of Comedy". This show was moved from ABC to UPN, allegedly because Hughley wanted more creative control, but the situation comedy format doesn't allow him to cut loose like he can onstage.
