It's crazy how timeless parts of this movie still feel, how charming Christopher Reeve still is as Superman (he's PERFECT), and then you get to the Lex Luthor stuff and it still feels so trapped in the silver age of comics.
This Lex Luthor is an old school villain, with bumbling cronies and a secret lair. He wants to kill Superman just because Superman is good and Lex Luthor is evil. That's it. That's his entire character, and that's what ultimately fuels the movie's whole climax.
And that climax is a mess. In more ways than one. Conceptually, I think it's cool, but when you think about it for even a few seconds, none of it makes any sense and we're left with so many questions the movie spends absolutely zero time answering.
When this movie's strong, its power is hard to match. And when it's weak, hoo boy.
