I usually like sequels as a rule - or at least a lot more than the average movie-goer seems to. I think if you go in with the right mind-set, that everything is already set up so it can get straight into the fun and that everything has to be ramped up from the original, that you can have a great time with them. 'Inside Out 2' did not feel that way to me. It felt very similar to the original in almost every way - except for being more fun.
My biggest problem with the original was that it simply wasn't funny enough, and this one is even less funny again. It is missing the character of 'Bing Bong' which is a huge hit. There's no character in here that can replace him and so that leaves a huge void in the movie. He was the heart and soul of the original and also responsible for 90% of the humour.
The story-line also feels strikingly similar to the original. I understand there's only so much you can do in this world, but surely they could have changed it up more than this? If they do make a third one, and I'm sure they will because these films are a license to print money, I will be curious what they choose to do with the story.
Basically I was just bored during 'Inside Out 2'. It never justified its existence, other than as a money making venture in my eyes. A generous 5/10.
