As a white Englishman who's never even been to Frisco let alone Oakland it's difficult to empathise with anything going on here yet clearly it is a labor of love and the performances, especially the two leads, are exceptional. It's had a low-key release here in the UK and as I write it is playing at only two theatres in London and at the showing I attended there was only one other person in the audience. Whilst it would certainly help if you were a viewer with even an entry-level knowledge of the themes it is definitely worth seeing.
