Pachinko, starring Lee Min-ho, is the most moving drama/part documentary I have ever seen on screen thanks to the emotions portrayed on screen by the actors and actresses. A bit of a departure for Lee Min-ho to immerse himself so deeply into the historical role with Japanese as well as Korean and he was fantastic. There is an introduction video that tells more about how he prepared for the role. I especially loved the emotion of when he was younger in the earthquake scene and also older with his emotion of a raw love (instead of his romantic love style). His emotion can speak through his eyes.
The duel languages were easy to discern with the addition of different color subtitles. Being from the US I learned a lot about the history and struggles the Koreans went through and how each person had their own personal way of surviving so everyone's story is different. In Lee MinHo's role, it still has the overall vibe of what he is good at - the bad boy or bad guy with his own lovable heart that comes through in his character. I loved the way a bit of documentary is added at the end reminiscent of Spielberg style with survivor stories.
I waited a long time to see it - waited til I needed a new phone for a free trial as couldn't sign up for another service but so glad I put it on as soon as I could - worth the wait.
