Blond, blue-eyed, tall and handsome Dutch actor Rutger Hauer enjoyed an international reputation for playing everything from romantic leads to action heroes to sinister villains. Hauer was born in Breukelen, a Dutch town and former municipality in the province of Utrecht.

He was the son of Teunke Hauer (née Mellema) and Arend Hauer, actors who operated an acting school. As his parents were often touring, he and his three sisters were raised by a nanny. A bit of a rebel during his childhood, he chafed at the rules and rigors of school and was often getting into mischief. His grandfather had been the captain of a schooner and at age fifteen, Hauer ran away to work on a freighter for a year. Like his great-grandfather, Hauer was color-blind, which prevented him from furthering his career as a sailor.

Upon his return he attended night school and started working in the construction industry. When he again bombed at school, his parents enrolled him in drama classes. An amateur poet, he spent most of his time writing poetry and hanging out in Amsterdam coffee houses instead of studying. He was expelled for poor attendance and afterward spent a brief period in the Dutch navy.

Deciding he didn't like military life, Hauer honed his acting skills trying to convince his superiors he was mentally unfit and was sent to a special home for psych patients. It was an unpleasant place, but Hauer remained there until he had convinced his ranking officers that the military really did not need him.

Paul Verhoeven graduated from the University of Leiden, with a degree in math and physics. He entered the Royal Netherlands Navy, where he began his film career by making documentaries for the Navy and later for TV. In 1969, he directed the popular Dutch TV series, Floris (1969), about a medieval knight. This featured actor Rutger Hauer, who has appeared in many of Verhoeven's later films. Verhoeven's first feature, Wat zien ik (1971) (trans. "What do I See?"), was released in 1971. However, it was his second, Turkish Delight (1973), with its combination of raw sexuality and a poignant story-line, that gained him great popularity in the Netherlands, especially with male audiences. Sylvia Hoeks has been living and working in the US for the past 6 years. Born in the Netherlands, she was scouted by Elite Models at age 14 and traveled the world to model. After doing this, she finished high school and attended the Maastricht Theatre Academy.

After graduation, she made her national breakthrough with the Jos Stelling film, Duska (2007), for which she won a Golden Calf (the Dutch equivalent of the Oscars) at the annual Dutch Film Festival. The film was a national success and reached the Stony Brook Film Festival (NY, USA) and Festroia International Film Festival (Setubal, Portugal), where she received the award for "best actress".

In 2010, Sylvia starred as "Tirza" in the feature film, Tirza (2010), by director Rudolf van den Berg, which won the "Best Film" award at Festroia International Film Festival in Portugal. In 2011, Sylvia was presented at the Berlinale as Shooting Star, the unique Pan European initiative which puts a spotlight on Europe's best actors.

In 2011, Sylvia played the main character, "Johanna", in the feature film, The Gang of Oss (2011). Five years after her national breakthrough, she started working together again with director Jos Stelling on his new feature film, The Girl and Death (2012), in a Russian-German co production (release 2012).

In 2013, Sylvia plays her first international role in The Best Offer (2013) (The Best Offer), directed by Giuseppe Tornatore and starring next to Geoffrey Rush. The film was a box office hit in several European countries as Italy and Spain and is nominated for Best Film at the 2013 European Film Awards. Released in the Netherlands and the US in 2014.

In 2015, she starred in several Film and TV productions in The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark and accepts the female lead in Luc Besson's new action thriller, American Renegades (2017) (The Lake), which will have its international release in 2017.

In 2016, Sylvia starred in the new Blade Runner 2049 (2017), directed by Denis Villeneuve.

In 2018 Sylvia took on the role of 'Queen Kane' in Apple TV show 'See' which filmed its second season in 2020.

Katja Herbers is the daughter of violinist Vera Beths and oboist Werner Herbers. Growing up she spent time in America, accompanying her mother on tour with the chamber music group L'Archibudelli. Her mother remarried cellist Anner Bylsma and her father remarried costume designer Leonie Polak, who introduced her to the theater. She had a Canadian au pair and learned to speak Dutch, German, and English growing up.

Herbers went to the Ignatius Gymnasium in Amsterdam. She studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam. During her psychology studies she attended the local theatre school De Trap. She moved to New York and went to the HB Studio. She then got accepted to the Theaterschool in Amsterdam.

During her studies, she starred in the films Peter Ball (2002) and Brush with Fate (2003). After graduation, Herbers became a member of Johan Simons' Theater Company NTGent in Ghent. She then joined the renowned Munich Kammerspiele in Germany. She worked with directors such as Alex van Warmerdam, Ivo van Hove and Theu Boermans under whose direction she performed many Schnitzler plays, including his monologue Fräulein Else, for which she received rave reviews. In 2013, she won the Guido de Moor Award for young talent, for her portrayal of Irina in Chekhov's Three Sisters. She played a lead role in Theu Boermans' The Chosen, which won an International Emmy and the prestigious Prix D'Europe.

Katja is also a gifted singer and has performed Im Wunderschönen Monat Mai - a composition inspired by the great Schubert and Schumann songs by Reinbert de Leeuw especially written for an actress.

While achieving many successes on stage, Katja continued filming as well. She worked with the Oscar Nominated and International Emmy Awarded Director Ben Sombogaart on the Dutch blockbuster feature De storm (2009). Critics raved about her portrayal of the Dutch Queen (then Princess) Maxima in the mini-series Beatrix, Oranje onder Vuur (2012). Rudolf van den Berg directed her in the feature film Süskind (2012), in which she played the right hand of Dutch war hero Walter Süskind, who helped escape over a thousand children during World War II. Jelle de Jonge directed her in the romantic comedy Love Over Distance (2017), which she co-wrote.

Really all of Holland knows her for her portrayal of the emotionally unstable but lovable Joyce in the TV hit series Divorce (2012), which glues a record breaking 25% of all Dutch television viewers to the screen every Sunday evening.

Internationally, Katja is known for playing physicist Helen Prins on Sam Shaw's Manhattan (2014). She had a recurring role on season three of FX's The Americans (2013). She played Dr. Eden on the final season of HBO's The Leftovers (2014), and starred opposite Mark Duplass in Manhunt (2017).

In 2018 she joined HBO's Westworld (2016) as Grace/Emily.

Katja divides her time between Los Angeles, New York and Amsterdam.

A leading lady of the 1940s, the tall and blonde Foch usually played cool, aloof and often foreign, women of sophistication. As film roles became harder to find, Foch proved to be versatile in many areas. She was a panelist on several TV quiz shows, worked as George Stevens' assistant director for The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) and directed plays. Since the 1960s, she has been an acting teacher for USC and the American Film Institute.

Loes Haverkort was born on 19 January 1981 in Almelo, Overijssel, Netherlands. She is an actress, known for Celblok H (2014), Juliana, prinses van Oranje (2006) and De jacht (2016). She has been married to Floris Verbeij since 2012. They have two children.

Carel Struycken was born in the Hague, The Netherlands. When he was four years old his family moved to Curacao, an island in the Caribbean. At age sixteen, he returned to his home country, where he finished high school. He graduated from the directing program at the film school in Amsterdam, following which he did a year at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.

After school, he collaborated on a number of projects of writer/director Rene Daalder. He was "discovered" as an actor at the corner of Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles by a lady who had abandoned her car in the middle of the street, calling after him, "We need you for a movie!". The movie was Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978). The turning point in his acting career however was Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985), a George Lucas film. In addition to cinema, he has also appeared on television, notably as the recurring character, valet Mr. Homn, on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987).

Carel has also helped in hardware and software development of virtual reality systems.

Marwan Kenzari is an award-winning Dutch actor. He received critical acclaim for his powerful and brooding performance in the Dutch crime drama Wolf, in which he plays a recently paroled Moroccan immigrant struggling to toe the line between promising boxer and rising criminal enforcer. His performance won him the Golden Calf for Best Actor at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2013. The International Film Festival Berlin selected Marwan as a Shooting Star 2014, while Variety introduced him as 'International Talent to Watch' in February 2014, followed by a listing in The Hollywood Reporter's '15 International Break Out Talents of 2016'.

In 2016, he had turns in Timur Bekmambetov's Ben Hur and Terry George's period drama The Promise starring Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac, which premiered in Toronto. 2017 will see him feature alongside Tom Cruise in The Mummy, opposite Noomi Rapace and Glenn Close in What Happend to Monday, and together with Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley and Nicholas Hoult in actioner Collide.

In 2017 he can also be seen in the 20th Century Fox's Murder on the Orient Express with Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp and Judi Dench, with Branagh also directing. Kenzari will play the French conductor of the train. In the new Netflix film The Angel he will play the lead.

Sylvia Kristel was born on September 28, 1952 in Utrecht, Netherlands. She first came to international attention in the early 1970s with Emmanuelle (1974) for director Just Jaeckin. Then two more sequels followed in which she also starred. Included in her credits are a long list of European films including the film Julia (1974), in which she played the lead. In 1979, she came to Hollywood, appearing in The Concorde... Airport '79 (1979) for producer Jennings Lang, who also featured her in the comedy film The Nude Bomb (1980). However, this was all a prelude to the most successful film in Kristel's career -- Private Lessons (1981) -- in which she played the housekeeper who initiates 15-year-old Eric Brown to the wonders of sex. The film grossed over $50,000,000 worldwide. The Dutch actress, who speaks four languages (Dutch, English, Italian and French), now made her home in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Sylvia Kristel died at age 60 of cancer in her sleep on October 18, 2012.

Halina Reijn is a renowned director, actress, author and producer. She is the winner of multiple awards, including the Dutch film Award, the Golden Calf for Best Actress , the Dutch theater awards Theo D'Or and Colombina, as well as the Courbois pearl, an oeuvre award which honours an actress who has made an indelible impression, both on stage as in film and television. Since 2017 she is also the proud owner of the Theo Mann-Bouwmeester Ring, an award to honour an actress who has contributed greatly to the Dutch theatre.

Halina was professionally trained at the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts and in 1997 debuted on stage as Ophelia in Hamlet, directed by Theu Boermans. She continued to act on stage in such productions as Shopping & Fucking, Three Sisters, Mourning Becomes Electra, Hedda Gabler, La Voix Humaine, The Fountainhead and recently Obsession, opposite Jude Law. Halina works with internationally acclaimed director Ivo van Hove at the International Theatre Amsterdam, performing their plays all over the world. Jeroen Krabbe was born in Amsterdam to a family of painters. His grandfather was a famous impressionist, his father a talented artist and his mother a qualified interpreter responsible for translating Dutch films into English. He was destined to be a painter but after high school and a year of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts decided at 17 to change to acting and became the youngest pupil to be accepted at Toneel School - the Academy of Performing Arts'. He graduated in 1965 and spent 6 years in repertory theatre distinguishing himself in classical and contemporary roles such as Bierowne in 'Loves Labours Lost', Cassio in 'Othello' and Chance Wayne in 'Sweet Bird of Youth'. In the early 7-'s he formed his own theatre group and toured in such as 'Relatively Speaking'and 'How the Other Half Loves'. He established himself at the top of the tree when he directed'The Diary of Anne Frank'in which he starred as Otto Frank which became one of the biggest successes of the Dutch stage.He also had his own chat show on Dutch television and a music programme on radio. After playing a leading role in Paul Verhoeven's 'Soldier of Orange' on radio he left for America to play opposite Rock Hudson in the television series 'World War Three' then two films with Paul Verhoeven 'spotters' and Fourth Man' His performance in the latter won him the 'Vittorio de Sica prize in Italy and a special award at the film festival at Avoriazi in Spain. He decided to return to the academy of Fine Arts to see how good a painter he was . After 3 years of painting, filming and stage acting he graduated from the academy and decided to quit the theatre in favour of painting and film making. He was given an exhibition together with his father and grandfather at the Singler Museum in Laren which was a huge success and established him as a true painter.

Lotte Verbeek is an award-winning Dutch actress, dancer and model. Lotte was born in Venlo, Netherlands. She was educated at Gymnasium Collegium Marianum in Venlo and graduated in 2008 at the Theaterschool in Amsterdam. From 1999, Verbeek attended the Dance Academy in Arnhem and the Amsterdam Academy of Jazz/Musical Theatre and Dance, where she graduated in 2006. During her studies, she worked as a dancer and model for photographer Erwin Olaf.

Whoopie Van Raam was born in Amsterdam and grew up in The Netherlands, Spain and the UK. After graduating as a classical pianist from the Conservatoire in The Netherlands she went on to train as an actor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Interested in Martial Arts she frequently follows intense Muay Thai training programs in Thailand.

She most recently played opposite Jason Statham in Meg 2: The Trench directed by Ben Wheatley for Warner Bros, which came out during the 2023 SAG strike.

Thekla Reuten is an undeniable front-runner in the new century's wave of European actresses lauded on the international stage and screen. In the space of just three years, the Dutch actress was a prominent member of two Best Picture Oscar nominees in the Foreign Language Feature category. In the Belgian comedy-drama "Everybody's Famous!" and the 2002 Dutch offering "Twin Sisters," she presented herself to international audiences as a force to be reckoned with. Reuten was then able to land a few notable English-language credits. On stage she starred opposite Gael Garcia Bernal in "Bloodwedding" directed by Rufus Norris at the Almeida Theatre. But arguably Reuten's best work in the United States was for the 2006-2007 Showtime series "Sleeper Cell" - in the second season, she portrayed a Muslim fundamentalist posing as a nanny. She had a small part in the quirky 2008 hitman drama "In Bruges," starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and guested on an episode of the ABC fantasy series "Lost." In 2010 she played opposite George Clooney in his thriller "The American," which was shot in Europe, and in 2018 she also appeared in the 2018 Francis Lawrence spy-thriller "Red Sparrow". Last year she was awarded Best Actress twice for her lead role in critically acclaimed intimate drama "Narcosis". Speaking five European languages (Dutch, English, Italian, German and French) and with an Italian mother Reuten graduated from Amsterdam's Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1997 and quickly came to the recognition of stage and screen directors to garner roles in significant productions, debuting with leading Dutch TV series Wij Alexander (1998).

Gaite Jansen is considered one of the most promising Dutch young acting talents of her generation. She can be seen on the HBO/ Cinemax show Jett (2019), opposite Carla Gugino, directed by Sebastian Gutierrez. Prior to this, she played recurring roles on BBC's Peaky Blinders (2013) Season 3 and Line of Duty (2012) Season 4.

Her performance as a deaf teenager in the groundbreaking 2011 drama 170 Hz (2011) earned her nominations for Best Actress at the Seattle Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Festival. Jan de Bont was one of 17 children born into a Roman Catholic Dutch family in Eindhoven on 22 October 1943. The film was a success and took him onto the next set for Twister (1996), which he also directed. But then the total flops started coming his way: firstly, Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997), which he wrote and directed but without the company of Keanu Reeves. He also directed the star-packed The Haunting (1999) but that also failed at the box office. Later, he directed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life (2003). He is still active in cinema.

Martijn Lakemeier (1993) first came to the scene at age of 14, when he made his acting debut in WINTER IN WARTIME, the Dutch Oscar submission in 2010. For his magnificent portrayal of a young boy coming of age during World War II, he won the prestigious Dutch film award the Golden Calf for Best Actor. He is the youngest winner to date. Besides the Golden Calf, Martijn was also awarded the Rembrandt Award for Best Actor, an important Dutch audience award. Nearly one million people went to see WINTER IN WARTIME in Dutch cinemas, which is a huge box office hit for Dutch standards. The film crossed the Dutch borders and was awarded Best Film at the annual European Youth Film Festival of Rome and was selected as the Dutch entry for the Academy Awards. WINTER IN WARTIME had theatrical releases in the US, Germany, Great Britain and Canada. In 2009 Martijn played his second leading role in the teenage movie LOVER OR LOSER directed by Dave Schram, after the book by immensely popular Dutch children's writer Carry Slee. In 2011, Martijn plays another lead in the well-received Dutch short film DAYS OF GRASS. After graduating high school, Martijn is added to the cast of the popular Dutch TV series FEUTEN, in which he plays the Dutch heir to the throne in his freshman years. Later that year Martijn can be seen in the critically acclaimed Dutch drama series THE SECRETS OF BARSLET. The same year Martijn stars in three Dutch movies: the award-winning film THE MARATHON, the art house film IT IS ALL SO QUIET, by Golden Calf winning director Nanouk Leopold and YOUNG by Colette Bothof. In 2014 DUTCH HOPE, in which Martijn plays one of the lead roles, wins a Golden Calf (Dutch equivalent of the Emmy Awards) for best TV drama series. Furthermore he plays roles in the films SUMMER and ZURICH. In 2015 Martijn played in the film VENTOUX, after the Dutch best selling novel by Bert Wagendorp. And in the romantic comedy YES, I DO! in which he plays one of the lead roles. In 2016 he played on of the leads in the film VENTOUX directed by Nicole van Kilsdonk. In that same year he finished shooting a French film TOUT LÁ-HAUT. He is playing the lead next to Marwan Kenzari in the feature THE EAST directed by Jim Taihuttu. Currently he is on set of the third season of successful TV series DUTCH HOPE.

After his career as a child actor, Meeno moved into photography, and has shot covers for major recording artists and ad campaigns for national brands. He's assisted by his wife and they travel with their two daughters, who he calls "his muses". He's also worked with politicians and, as he says, "all manner of real work-a-day folk".
