Born in 1954 in Pingtung, Taiwan, Ang Lee has become one of today's greatest contemporary filmmakers. Ang graduated from the National Taiwan College of Arts in 1975 and then came to the U.S. to receive a B.F.A. Degree in Theatre/Theater Direction at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Masters Degree in Film Production at New York University. At NYU, he served as Assistant Director on Spike Lee's student film, Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads (1983). After Lee wrote a couple of screenplays, he eventually appeared on the film scene with Pushing Hands (1991), a dramatic-comedy reflecting on generational conflicts and cultural adaptation, centering on the metaphor of the grandfather's Tai-Chi technique of "Pushing Hands". The Wedding Banquet (1993) (aka The Wedding Banquet) was Lee's next film, an exploration of cultural and generational conflicts through a homosexual Taiwanese man who feigns a marriage in order to satisfy the traditional demands of his Taiwanese parents. It garnered Golden Globe and Oscar nominations, and won a Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. The third movie in his trilogy of Taiwanese-Culture/Generation films, all of them featuring his patriarch figure Sihung Lung, was Eat Drink Man Woman (1994) (aka Eat Drink Man Woman), which received a Best Foreign Film Oscar nomination. Lee followed this with Sense and Sensibility (1995), his first Hollywood-mainstream movie. It acquired a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and won Best Adapted Screenplay, for the film's screenwriter and lead actress, Emma Thompson. Lee was also voted the year's Best Director by the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle. Lee and frequent collaborator James Schamus next filmed The Ice Storm (1997), an adaptation of Rick Moody's novel involving 1970s New England suburbia. The movie acquired the 1997 Best Screenplay at Cannes for screenwriter James Schamus, among other accolades. The Civil War drama Ride with the Devil (1999) soon followed and received critical praise, but it was Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) (aka Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) that is considered one of his greatest works, a sprawling period film and martial-arts epic that dealt with love, loyalty and loss. It swept the Oscar nominations, eventually winning Best Foreign Language Film, as well as Best Director at the Golden Globes, and became the highest grossing foreign-language film ever released in America. Lee then filmed the comic-book adaptation, Hulk (2003) - an elegantly and skillfully made film with nice action scenes. Lee has also shot a short film - Chosen (2001) (aka Hire, The Chosen) - and most recently won the 2005 Best Director Academy Award for Brokeback Mountain (2005), a film based on a short story by Annie Proulx. In 2012 Lee directed Life of Pi which earned 11 Academy Award nominations and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Director. In 2013 Ang Lee was selected as a member of the main competition jury at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

Born in Taiwan, Qi Shu has won the prestigious Golden Horse Award in Taiwan (regarded as the East Asian Oscar) for Best Supporting Actress in 1998. She has also received a Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actress in 2005. She appeared with Jackie Chan in the romantic comedy Gorgeous (1999) ("Gorgeous"). Her name is spelled in a variety of ways, including Hsu Qi, Hsu Chi, Qi Shu, and Shu Kei, and there are quite a few other variations on her name on foreign V.C.D.s, D.V.D.s, and internet sites.

Camille Chen was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She is an actress and producer, known for Game Night (2018), Spy Kids 3: Game Over (2003) and Renfield (2023). She has been married to Christian Anderson since 4 March 2017.

Christina Chang was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, by her Chinese-Filipino father and American mother. At 17 she moved to the United States to study Theatre & Film in her mother's home state of Kansas and later studied acting in Seattle, USA. Chang went on to gain a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Washington in Seattle, where she won her first professional acting job in the play "Naomi's Road" at the Seattle Children's Theater. Jay Chou is a Taiwanese musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor and director. He was born in Taipei to schoolteachers, Yeh Hui-Mei, who taught fine arts, and Chou Yao-Chung, a biomedical researcher. In 2000, Chou released his first album, titled Jay (2000), under the record company Alfa Music. Since then, his music has gained recognition throughout Asia, most notably in regions such as Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and in western Asian communities such as in the United States and Australia. He has sold more than 30 million albums since his debut. Chou continues to write songs for other artists, work on his album and went on to win numerous awards in the music industry. In 2003, he was the cover story of Time magazine (Asia version), titled New King of Asian Pop, acknowledging his influence on popular culture. He has since held five world tours, performing in cities around the world to more than 10 million people. Chou debuted his acting career and made his film debut in Initial D (2005), and also since ventured into many movie projects. He made his Hollywood debut in 2011 with The Green Hornet (2011), starring alongside Seth Rogen and Christoph Waltz. Chou also manages his own record and management company, JVR Music.

Gwei Lun-mei was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She began her acting career in the film Blue Gate Crossing (2002). She had her breakthrough in 2007 when she played the female lead in the film Secret (2007) directed by Jay Chou. She was awarded Best Leading Actress for Girlfriend Boyfriend (2012) at the 49th Golden Horse Film Awards in 2012.

Chang Chen, an international renowned actor, first earned his attention at the age of 14 when he took the lead role in A Brighter Summer Day. Since then, he was nominated three times at the Golden Horse Awards, and several times for best actor at the Berlinale and the Cannes Film Festival. Her debut late-night set on The Late Late Show with James Corden (2015) was praised by Vulture, stating she won late night the week it aired. She voiced the role of Mary in Stephen Colbert's animated series Fairview (2022) & Candice Fisher in his animated feature Washingtonia. Brigitte Lin is a Taiwanese actress. She is regarded as an icon of Chinese language cinema for her extensive and varied roles in both Taiwanese and Hong Kong films. Lin was born in Chiayi, Taiwan. She was scouted in 1972 on the streets of Taipei by a film producer after she finished women's high school and was preparing for university.

For someone who never considered entering showbiz, Eddie Peng has certainly carved out an amazing acting career. He is arguably the Chinese film industry's most recognizable and bankable star today, having starred in over 30 box-office hits - a canny mix of epic blockbusters and indie projects.

Peng migrated to Canada when he was 13 and spent the next 10 years there. In 2002, the Economics major (University of British Columbia) returned to Taipei to attend his grandmother's funeral, and was cast in the TV series Tomorrow as the second male lead.

This serendipitous casting marked the beginning of his swift rise to fame. Peng made his big screen debut in Exit No. 6 in 2006, and quickly proved just how committed he was to his newfound profession. To play a gymnast in Jump Ashin! (2011), Peng spent 12 hours a day over an eight-month period practicing gymnastics. The film was a box-office hit and he went on to star in police thriller Cold War (2012) and Unbeatable (2013), for which he endured rigorous workout regimes to play an MMA athlete.

Peng's dedication to the craft did not go unnoticed. He earned nominations for Best Newcomer at Golden Horse Awards for My DNA Says I Love You (2007), Best Actor for Jump Ashin! (2011), and Best Supporting Actor for Unbeatable (2013) at the Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Awards.

In 2014, Peng landed the coveted role of martial arts legend Wong Fei Hung in Rise of The Legend, which earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Peng then put in months of grueling training to play a professional cyclist in To The Fore (2015), which was Hong Kong's entry for the best foreign-language film at the 88th Academy Awards. Peng was also appointed the first Chinese Goodwill Ambassador of the 2015 Tour DE France.

Another breakthrough came in 2016 with Peng's portrayal of an undercover cop in Operation Mekong, which received critical acclaim and became the highest-grossing Chinese crime action at that point. That same year, he also starred in romance drama Run for Love alongside Zhang Ziyi, police thriller Cold War II, war epic Call of Heroes, and Zhang Yimou's historical epic The Great Wall.

In 2017, Peng starred in director Ann Hui's war film Our Time Will Come, and scored a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 12th Asian Film Awards. Peng then went on to headline fantasy epic Wu Kong. In 2018, Peng starred in director Jiang Wen's Hidden Man, which was mainland China's entry in the best foreign-language film category at the 91st Academy Awards. Jiang was highly complimentary of his leading man: "Eddie's self-discipline is beyond imagination - he commands the body with his soul."

After a year-long break, Peng returned to star in The Rescue in 2020, director Dante Lam's action thriller about China's emergency rescue ops teams. Peng also starred in Ann Hui's Love After Love, adapted from novelist Eileen Chang's romance classic. The film was selected for the out-of-competition category at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where director Hui was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

For the film Are You Lonesome Tonight released in 2021, Peng stayed true to form and lost 35 pounds for his role. The film had its special screening in the official selection of the 74th Cannes Film Festival and was selected for the a Window on Asian Cinema category at the 26th Busan International Film Festival. In addition, it was also selected for the Contemporary World Cinema category at the 46th Toronto International Film Festival and the Perlak section at the 69th San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Off camera, Peng devotes time to causes close to his heart. He partnered with international organization WildAid to encourage protection of sea turtles, appearing in a campaign and documentary aired on World Wildlife Day in 2019. He is well-known for his charity work for children with cancer. Peng is also official ambassador for international brands Longines and Berluti.

Collin Chou was born on 11 August 1967 in Taiwan. He is an actor and producer, known for The Matrix Revolutions (2003), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Forbidden Kingdom (2008). He has been married to Wanda Yung since 10 December 1997. They have two children.

Feng-Jiao Lin was born on 30 June 1953 in Taiwan. She is an actress, known for The Story of a Small Town (1979), He Never Gives Up (1979) and Shaolin Long Arm (1974). She has been married to Jackie Chan since 1 December 1982. They have one child.

Sylvia Chang was born on 22 July 1953 in Chiayi, Taiwan. She is an actress and writer, known for Love Education (2017), 20:30:40 (2004) and Passion (1986).

Angela Mao was born as Mao Ching Ying in 1950 as the third of eight children to a family of entertainers for the Peking Opera House. She had a successful career as a Chinesa Opera actress, where her flexibility and martial arts first developed. She was discovered by film producer Raymond Man-Wai Chow who made her a star. Then, she trained in hapkido, and felt attracted to the new kung fu style, on demand by Hong Kong producers. Her career, if not long, was impressive, as she was one of the first women to make that sort of break-through in the film industry, until then reserving the fights and acrobatics to men. She played Bruce Lee's sister in Enter the Dragon (1973), and she also worked with Jackie Chan several times when he was a newcomer. In 1974, she fell in love and married Kelly Lai Chen. Their daughter Hsi Pui Sze was born in 1976. However, the couple divorced. She retired from films in 1983 and moved to America with her second husband when her son George King was born. She moved to Queens, New York in 1993 and eventually opened several Chinese restaurants that she runs with her son and daughter-in-law: Mama King, Nan Bei Ho, New Mei Hua, Guo Ba Inc. She usually declines interviews, because she wanted to lower her profile for the sake of her marriage. In 2008, she visited China to attend the wedding of her daughter, who had been raised by her first husband. In 2016, she gave a reluctant interview to the "New York Times" while feeding her baby granddaughter in one of her restaurants, with her son and daughter-in-law acting as her translators. She said that she still has fans who show up to her restaurants just to see her, but that fame was never as important as taking care of her family.

Hannah Quinlivan (born 12 August 1993), also known as Kun Ling, is a Taiwanese-Australian actress and model.

Hannah Quinlivan was born to an Australian father and a Taiwanese-Korean mother in Taiwan, on August 12, 1993. She has a younger half brother from her paternal side, and an older half sister from her maternal side. She graduated from Juang Jing Vocational High School. Joey Wang grew up in her native Taiwan, where she was spotted by a talent scout for a modeling agency. Tiffany Ann Hsu (her birth name in Mandarin is Wei-Ning Hsu, but she loves people call her Ann because that's what her beloved grandfather calls her) was born on 7th August 1984 in Taipei City, Taiwan. She is an Italian-Taiwanese model and actress.

Hsu's father is an Italian-American and her mother is Taiwanese. When she was 2 years old, Hsu's father left her mother, and Hsu was raised by her mother along with her grandfather, grandmother, and her mother's other family members. Hsu graduated from Taipei Hwa Kang Arts School and Chinese Cultural University with a major in Drama Acting. She was first noticed by Catwalk Agency when she participated in a talent casting for MTV Taiwan and was then signed up to be a model in 2003.

The following year, in her first movie lead actress role, she starred in Design 7 Love (2014). Hsu's depiction of a woman caught in a complicated situation who must find a way out earned her a Golden Horse Award nomination as Best New Performer.
