Benjie Bancroft is another example of somebody whose entire career was dedicated to the motion picture industry.
After Bancroft got out of high school, he got hired as a test flyer for various aviation companies. He had a marriage that quickly ended in a divorce so instead of getting drafted, Bancroft decided to enlist in the Army Air Corps. During this time, Hollywood studios were making countless military films that needed authentic military scenes because your average movie go was a veteran and could tell the difference between a real training sequence, and ones that weren't believable to the average filmgoer. It was only natural for Bancroft with his appearance and the ability he acquired from his military training to find work during this era in countless films. He could usually be seen upfront by the main characters where his appearance was able to help provide a certain level of authenticity to the film without distracting the viewer from the main story.
By the early 1950s, Bancroft started to transition into doing more television westerns. By the mid-1950s, Bancroft became friends with Ozzie and Harriet Nelson. This connection led Bancroft and his wife June Fenley to make frequent appearances in various roles for the series.
During the 1960s, Bancroft's stern appearance and high level of professionalism lead him to develop a niche for himself as a police officer in films. He purchased a motorcycle and he developed a cop character that would gain him steady work for the next 20 years. Thanks to Bancroft's never-aging face, he was able to appear in these roles constantly through the 1970s while also receiving stunt credit for doubling people who couldn't ride a motorcycle but whose character was required to by the script.
By the 1980s, Bancroft's work started to dwindle. By the mid-1980s, Bancroft decided to retire so that he and his wife could enjoy their retirement together. Benjie Bancroft is a prime of somebody whose longevity in the motion picture industry was predicated on him changing with the times and adjusting to whatever films the studios were making at the time. Throughout his career, he played bailiffs, cowboys, recruits, or whatever the studio needed at the time. He passed away in 2007 leaving behind a long legacy of film work and long-lasting respect for his professionalism.- Actor

Born into a show-business family - his parents were circus aerialists - Frankie Darro appeared in his first film at age six. Due to his small size and youthful appearance, he played teenagers well into his 20s. Always a physical performer, Darro often did his own stunts, many times out of necessity - his small stature made it difficult to find stunt doubles his size. He was an accomplished horseman and, in addition to westerns, made several films where he played jockeys. In 1933 he played the lead as a troubled teen in a major film for Warner Brothers : Wild Boys of the Road (1933). It is a pre code film with a realistic look at "The Great Depression" , from the point of view of the youth of the time. This film seems to have been rediscovered only recently and has received critical acclaim. That same year, he played a troubled youth in the James Cagney classic, "The Mayor Of Hell". Later in 1935, he had a key role in the cult serial classic' "The Phantom Empire"(1935). As Darro got older, however, he found it increasingly difficult to secure employment, and by the late 1940s was doing uncredited stunt work and bit parts. He had a recurring role on The Red Skelton Hour (1951), unrecognized by his fans, he played "Robby The Robot" in the groundbreaking sci-fi film "The Forbidden Planet" (1956), though Marvin Miller, best remembered as Michael Anthony of TVs "Millionaire"(1955-60), was the robot's voice. After that Frankie appeared sporadically in films and on TV . .- Actor

- Hanni [Sondheimer] Vogelweid (Oct. 5, 1923 - Jan. 27, 2006) was born in Berlin. Her family fled Germany when she was eleven, moving to Kaunas (Kovno), Lithuania. When the Soviet Union occupied Lithuania in 1940, Hanni's father decided they had to leave. Hanni, at 16 years old, stood in line outside Japanese Vice-Consul Chiune Sugihara's consulate for several days, finally obtaining transit visas from him, allowing her family to escape. The family traveled on the Trans-Siberian railway to Vladivostok, where they then boarded a ship for Japan. They remained stranded in Japan for many weeks until Japanese authorities forced them to relocate to Shanghai in Japanese-occupied China, in late 1941. Hanni and her family remained in Shanghai for the rest of the war. After the war, Hanni found a job working on the American Army base in Shanghai. She met and married an American officer stationed there. She returned with him to the United States in 1946.
Director Chris Tashima and co-writer Tom Donaldson first met Hanni in August 1996, when she invited the filmmakers to her home in Huntington Beach, CA, to show them old photos, and to share her thoughts: "Very few people know about Sugihara... it was hidden, and he suffered... so you're doing a great thing," she told the producers. She proved to be invaluable to the production, by providing personal photos and documents, and by sharing many memories of her journey, and how Sugihara saved her life.
On November 13, 1996, Hanni arrived on the set of the filming of Visas and Virtue (1997) in Los Angeles. She was there to offer her support and to make a special appearance in the film. The moment she arrived, everyone sensed that someone special was close by.
"Her presence grounded the whole project in reality," says Tashima. "She served as a vivid reminder of why we wanted to share this story."
She became a friend of the filmmakers, and a fan of the film. Over the next nine years, she often attended screenings and community presentations, as a special guest.
Hanni passed away in January, 2006. She brought to the film and to all involved a great sense of warmth and humanity, and the producers were honored to have had her be a part of their journey. - Music Department
