Oswald can't stand him - the thought of having to put up with Gehrig in his prized bomb shelter in the case of a nuclear war starts to drive him insane and he is determined to fight the evil Departement of Civil Defence by all means. In the end he loses everything and dies alone in his beloved bomb shelter. It turns out that Gehrig wouldn't have shown up anyway as he's moving to Burgundy.
