- Jerry is not the typical hit man. He's quiet, reserved and educated. Only take out the target(s), no more, no less. He just broke his only rule.
- The premise of the show consists of a group of "Beauties" (young women who have relied primarily on their looks) and a group of "Geeks" (young men who have relied primarily on intellect rather than social aptitude or looks) who are paired up to compete as couples for a shared $250,000 and other prizes. (For the fourth season, the producers modified the formula to include an extra team consisting of a male "beauty" and a female "geek". For the fifth season, the beauties and geeks competed against each other at first, and teams of one beauty and one geek were not selected until the end of episode three.) Each beauty lives together in a room with her geek during the course of the competition. There are challenges shown each episode, one testing the beauties on a primarily academic subject, and another that has the geeks competing in a more popular/social realm. The winners of the challenges select two teams to compete against each other in a pure "quiz show" type question and answer session: the team with fewer correct answers gets eliminated. By the end of the competition, many of the contestants say that they have learned much about interacting with people from a different social group (and positive lessons about the character of people from that group), positive things about themselves and their own character, and often something about human nature in general.

- There are five contestant left at the ranch after Ramon is voted off at the latest weigh-in. The five hit two annual Biggest Loser milestone events. The first is the shedding the pounds challenge, where they symbolically place on all the weight they have lost to date, and shed that weight based on weight lost during each week of their stay on the ranch at markers along a race course, which this year is on a steep uphill trail. The challenge, which will award the winner a one pound advantage at this week's weigh-in, is an emotional one for most if only because of the memories associated with that extra weight. The second is makeover week, which includes their made-over selves walking the red carpet to attend a special presentation of "Iris" by Cirque du Soleil, and attending that event with a loved one. The loved ones also accompany the contestants back to the ranch, where the trainers take the opportunity to prepare them for their collective post-ranch life after this week, as this week marks the last for all on the ranch. But before everyone heads home, they must find out who will be in the final four, a difficult task if only because of the historically low weight loss numbers associated with makeover week.
- With Cassandra's elimination after the latest weigh-in and vote, Emily and Kim feel vulnerable for elimination. That fear is lessened with an announcement by Alison: that all the contestants are now singles, meaning that there will be for the first time this season a yellow line. Emily and Kim feel they need to stay above the yellow line at the weigh-in to control their own destiny. With Buddy not cleared medically to compete, the remaining eight contestants compete in a seven round reward challenge, with each round having the contestants all tied to a ring. Each person is trying to reach their buzzer which is located in opposite directions from everyone else's, meaning that they have to pull all the other contestants in their direction. The first to reach their buzzer wins the round and sits out the remaining rounds. Each contestant does win a reward, which is determined on the old "white elephant" gift giving method. One of those rewards is a fashion shopping spree for two with an unnamed fashion icon. During the week's workouts, Bob and Dolvett take aside Emily and Kimmy respectively, to deal with the issues which got them to their initial overweight status. And after the weigh-in and vote, the eliminated contestant embarks on a new life path with the help of a former contestant.
- With Rob and Luis respectively being eliminated after the last two weigh-ins, seven contestants remain at the ranch after week ten, those seven who go into Makeover Week under the guidance of stylist Tim Gunn and hairstylist Ken Paves. Gunn realizes the importance of the makeovers to the seven as a physical manifestation of their weight loss journey, which they may not have fully realized until this time. They will get a chance to share this moment of their new selves with loved ones from home. At a get-together with all seven and their loved ones, Bob announces that those loved ones will be going to the ranch, for what they believe will be a workout with the trainers. Instead, they all learn that one loved one per contestant will be helping in a last chance challenge, a race entailing moving weights from one end of a field to another, and pulling a weight-filled sled across that field. The winner of that challenge receives a stay at a Biggest Loser Resort with that loved one, and a one pound advantage at the week's weigh-in, at which there will be a yellow line. The contestants realize that the makeover may have negatively impinged on their workout time for the week, and thus are all anxious at the weigh-in.

Now, they have to figure out what happened the night before or their Rock and Roll dream is over. Their only hope is State Dependent Learning, which is the scientifically proven fact that information learned while under the influence of a given "substance", can only be recalled and used to solve a task when you are in the same state. Or in Layman's terms, They have to drink to remember. The prior night's debauchery comes back to them as they get Halfway to a Blackout against insurmountable odds.
