- Three little children live in an orphanage which is next to the school where little Lauretta is a pupil. The three befriend her and one night they climb the wall separating the orphanage from the school because they want to see fireworks. One of the boys is however wounded by a firecracker and at his sickbed his nanny and Lauretta's father meet. The two both with unfortunate love stories behind them, learn to love each other.
- Count Agostino di Montecorvo's nephew and niece pretend they get married for his hundredth birthday since the old man has had this wish for a long time. But when the count wants them to beget a child as well they are forced to present him with a fake one. But then the child's mother wants it back...

Salvatore starts his job with the help of his handicapped son. Since work seems to be very slow Lorenzo goes and checks on them and finds out that Salvatore has turned the house into a therapeutic community for troubled people. At first he's very angry but then his good heart prevails.
- Two penniless Italian buskers want to go to the USA but get on the wrong ship and end up in South America in a concentration camp where they are rescued by American parachutists from. Afterwards they become big shots in the States but their dream comes to an end : they are sent to fight in Vietnam
- A man and wife have a baby daughter. He would have preferred a boy but another delivery would probably kill the woman. After a while he takes up with a stripteaser and leaves his wife. The poor woman tries to win him back and delivers him a son but dies in childbirth. The man, full of remorse, leaves the stripteaser and begins a new life with his children.
