- Bennett speaks of objects in the family home bearing the marks of the past, and how the downward spiral from beauty to dotage leaves him with a feeling that the best of life has already eluded his grasp. This is furthered by growing up during the war, which harkens back to a near fantastical life which was purported to have happened before the conflict. Then it's the smell of the tree at his grandmother's house embossed on his memory and all the subtle differences streetwise children can detect. He concludes by observing how one's surroundings and proper name can fix the mindset of those endowed with them, and of elderly names compared to fashionable names today; and how will all meet the same end.
- After succeeding the throne, King Kim Han-Jik entrusts his children to his faithful servant Lee Kang-Hak. Suddenly he commits suicide and the newly appointed Lord of the town has evil plans for Kim's daughter, Suk-Young. But he's in more danger of being killed by her and Kang-Hak saves the Lord by killing her and all Kim's children. Then Kang-Hak himself becomes Lord of the town. Suk-Young's ghost begins torture Kang-Hak and villagers die every day until he is the only one left. When Kang-Hak is next to be killed, King Kim's ghost takes on the other ghosts. Kang-Hak awakens and erects tombstones to console all the ghosts.

On the day of their departure, her husband receives a special pardon. Will shebe able to break her marital ties?

She also finds her ex-husband, who wants to get back together, but he lives with Elica so she turns him down. Emma recklessly rides a horse across the fields to dispel her loneliness. She encounters Sanghyun again, who comforts her, but she turns down Sanghyun proposal. Emma reaches the conclusion that marriage and love are two different things, and decides to be independent.

His life is spoken about by the narrator, his sister-in-law, his son, his daughter, friends, critics, scholars and mistresses. The impression is of Camus as a charismatic, flawed, and yet principled man when it came to the task of confronting human existence without conforming.
- Byung-tae suffers from Cerebral palsy and in trying to go sightseeing, ends up at the wrong destination. There he meets Min-wu and pregnant Chun-ja and decides to join them on their trip. Chun-ja is suicidal and makes a lot of trouble for Byung-tae. Chun-ja gives birth in a barn and the couple have and impromptu wedding. When they arrive in Chun-ja's hometown, Byung-tae heads to his original destination.
- Du-jin the sailor meets Eun-ju, the fish market girl who sells more than fish, at a bar. She escapes from Heuksan Island when he stows her away. The two get married on the ship and find marital bliss. But Madam Maigori has sent word so when they dock in Mokpo, Eun-ju is caught and sent to another island. She's shifted from one island to the next until settling on Younpyung Island. While her husband searches for her the island is overrun by boats, and there's more sailors than women. Eun-ju has to fill in and finds Eun-ju when she's sent to service a room. Ashamed, she runs off, and Du-jin follows. Will Du-jin be able to pay off hers debts? Will their marriage be broken apart?
- Hansu Ra is adopted to an American family when her mom dies. She can't forget how her mother died and one day returns to Korea. She begins working under a pseudonym for an electronics company her mom used to manage. Hansu knows Choi Dal-geun, former vice president of the company, is guilty. She seduces Choi and gets him into a debt that pushes him to the brink. Then she seduces the manager and the director into fighting over her. What will the tragic but brave resolution be for these men and Hansu?
- A group of children are so impatient to be grown up, that they decide to discover if a folk tale that drinking from the end of a rainbows fountain, will really turn them into adults. To do this, they steal a boat and set out for rainbows end. Things don't go to plan, when they are pulled off course to an uninhabited island, while their parents rush around searching for them. As luck would have it, they're rescued by fishermen and returned home; now understanding the adult world and appreciating childhood a little more.
- At an abandoned village near the Demilitarized Zone, people from the North sneak in to farm the land. Yungu's son and grandson, would rather sell the land than farm it. He scolds them for not having his attachment to the family plot. A soldier meets Yungu and tells the story of a battle where the guerrillas fought desperately. Yungu is reminded of his other son who died in the war and becomes grief stricken. He thinks there's a grave for his son in this mountain valley. He gets permission and goes looking for the grave in the demilitarized zone. He finds a jade ring near the wooden marker and tells his sons this is their dead brother's grave.

The small lone engine's crew sits dumping what they can, and the scene continues barely checked from any angle. His bravado also attracts the attention from Mr. Seok's daughter, but Ku-Chil can't be swayed from his intentions to wed Seon-Hee, and proposes. Her father, Officer Ha disapproves. Will he recognize their love and permit their marriage? Will Mr. Seok's daughter ruin everything?

- Mary Michon studied the routine of 6th grade from the back of classrooms for months, to see how children treat one another and think of adults. She visited urban and rural schools; met with parents and teachers. Michon used all her observations to create the fictional Timotheusschool, a primary school set somewhere in the Netherlands. Everything in the series is based on real events. Several of the 23 children who played the students were discovered during her research. Rehearsals were held every Saturday for a year, and filming was done during school holidays. Some topics like emancipation and the debate over sex education are typical of the early 80s, but friendship, divorced parents, or the Cito test - are timeless. Mylou Frencken (who played Marja), Barbara Pouwels (who played Ellen) and others from the show became professional actors. Sports presenter Jan Joost van Gangelen, was the toddler who played Jannie's younger brother.
- Hee-ran is married to a very rich man but but can't handle the discrepancy between their families. She remarries the man who saved her father from bankruptcy, but also leaves him for his jealousy and debauchery. She moves to Japan, and pretends she's married to Yang, a mentally handicapped man. - Madhurika comes back to Diamond Town, after studying in Bombay, svelte and fit in Western clothes. Her arrival comes just as the villain Kedarnath, has brutally seized power while the Prince is away. He was charged with weeding out local corruption but has become the Thugee boss instead. Unbeknownst to Kedarnath, he has a secret enemy named Diler, from a local band of dacoits, who survived Kedarnath burning his family home and gave an oath to avenge his father. Diler and Madhurika join ranks to deliver the town from evil, as she campaigns for women's literacy and independence.

- An indifferent father in his 50s, discovers he has cancer and five months to live. He decides to keep it a secret and focus on organizing his life. The family have always felt he was distant and absorbed in his work, but this only grows worse now that he is even more focused; and resentments build. It turns out that preparing for death alone, makes him more bitter and drink to excess. Forgetting his wife's birthday, he arrives late and drunk; when his daughter angrily unloads on him. He just wants to rest peacefully, but now his home life is ruined. He decides there's no other option than to continue preparing for a painful end, and make sure his family are taken care of. Eventually, the family finds out about his illness, reconcile, and help him prepare for death.

- In the year 1999, totalitarianism prevails with the U.S.S.R. and U.S.A. colluding to govern the world by strict rules. Chaos erupts on the surface but state employees live safely underground. A radical and his son, visit his brother John's family in the bunkers and the discourse grows hot.
- Jung-ae volunteers at a juvenile prison when she graduates from college; but the violent boys threaten her safety. Her boyfriend visits and begs Jung-ae to quit. She considers but feels compelled to continue; until the day when an escapee puts her methods at risk. Will she get to the escaped boy in time? Will his negative attitude convince her to quit, or will she affect him positively? And will there ever be happiness at the prison?

- College girl Jang-mi, has trouble coping after her break up with with Kyu-sik. She suffers from the relationship with her emotionally distant father and falls for a mid-aged man she encounters on a train. This she abandons because he's married, and wanders aimlessly into being a prostitute. Kyu-sik's harsh judgment when he finds out, leads to her overdose on sleeping pills. This results in her stay in a mental hospital where she may fall in love again. But can her dreams of married bliss happen, considering her past?
- Three kids grow up in an orphanage; Haejin, Young-suk and Semin. Haejin is adopted by loving parents and becomes a reporter, Semin suffers from abandonment issues and joins the criminal underworld and Young-suk graduates top of the class at a fancy university and becomes a caretaker for disabled children. The kids call him 'Ggok-Ji-Ddan' and Haejin tracks down this character for a story, only to find it's her childhood friend. She also runs into Semin at a party he's crashed to rob. Young-suk's family are assaulted by hoodlums and Soo-yeon is kidnapped. Young-suk rescues her with the help of Semin, and takes their drug stash in revenge. Semin tells him to give the drugs to the cops but the criminals kidnap Haejin and set fire to Young-suk's house. Will he be able to save her? Will Semin continue his life of crime?
