It's so bad that they kicked their sheriff out of town, because they didn't want the law getting in their way. Saber Rider and April go undercover as prospectors. Saber gets appointed as the new town sheriff. Saber is disguised as an old man, and the appointment is meant as a joke. Colt and Fireball are supposed to stay with RAMROD, but Colt leaves to search for gold himself. After doing some snooping, Saber and April find out that Vanquo is up to his old tricks again. The gold turned out to all be fool's gold.

Saber, Colt, and Fireball go undercover as a trio of drifters. They get into a fake bar fight, which catches the attention of Maddox's foreman. The foreman gets them hired with Maddox's operation. As they head back to their hotel, the foreman reveals that he is also an agent of Cavalry Command. Later that evening, someone takes a shot at Fireball through the window of the hotel room. The Star Sheriffs give chase, and find Maddox and his men waiting for them. He's also captured April and RAMROD.

When the Outriders attack a convoy, Saber, April, Colt, and Fireball race to the rescue. Jessie also follows believing that he needs to protect April.

His ship is shot down, and he is taken into custody at Cavalry Command. As the Star Sheriffs are enjoying a rare off day, Saber meets a woman named Sincia, who runs an orphanage, and becomes immediately smitten. The Star Sheriffs decide to visit the kids and lift their spirits. Two of the kids are taken hostage by the Outriders. Sincia tries to save the children on her own, and April follows after her. They get ambushed and also taken as hostages. The Outriders give the Star Sheriffs an offer. They want to trade Calibose for the women and the children.

As he's showing it to the other Star Sheriffs, they get word that the settlement of New Dallas has come under attack by the Outriders. When they arrive, the Star Sheriffs find the outpost in ruins. The Outriders ambush the Star Sheriffs. Colt draws their fire so the others can escape. Later, Colt gets trapped in a cave by a new Renegade unit, and the iguana shows him the way out so that he can get back to RAMROD for the final battle.

She politely turns him down at first, but when he tries to force himself on her, she tosses him into a stack of barrels. General Whitehawk places Jessie on suspension, but Jessie quits instead. Jessie then joins up with Wolf and the Outriders. He leads them to Cavalry Command, where the Outriders steal their ships and explosives back. Jessie places a bomb aboard RAMROD. Jessie sees April getting on board, and tries to warn her. Saber Rider stops Jessie, and is about to take him into custody, when Jessie reveals what he's done. Now it is up to Saber to save April and Fireball, who is also aboard RAMROD.

Fireball takes the boy back to his father, who doesn't seem to be very appreciative. The Star Sheriffs find out that the Outriders have built a new Renegade Unit, and are planning an attack. They find out that Miguel's father used to be an associate of the Outriders. Miguel and his father are visited by Viperon, one of the Outrider leaders. Miguel's father had made a promise never to pick up a gun ever again, but when Viperon takes Miguel hostage, that promise is put to the test.

While pursuing one of the Outriders, Colt meets a young boy named Hoyt. Hoyt tells the Star Sheriffs about the Outriders taking over their town, and forcing the people to work as slaves in the silver mines. Hoyt leads Saber, Fireball, and Colt to the mine, where they encounter their latest villain, Gattler the Rattler. As the Star Sheriffs try to escape with the townspeople, they are cut off when Gattler unleashes the latest Renegade monster.

George, the park ranger, discovers the Outriders, and tries to warn the Star Sheriffs, but his signal is partially jammed. April gets part of the message, tells the guys what happened, and Saber decides they should head to Tropicus to find out what is going on. Meanwhile, George tries to escape with his family. Their jeep gets blown up by the Outriders. George's son, Ari, thinks that his parents have been killed. He and his pet dinosaur, Magenta, escape to safety, and run into Colt. The Star Sheriffs learn that the Outriders have been capturing the dinosaurs. Ari and Magenta volunteer to help with the mission.

The Star Sheriffs are playing a card game when they get a message from Commander Eagle that the Outriders are coming. The Star Sheriffs fend off the initial attack. Saber expects the Outriders to attack again at dawn, so Fireball volunteers to go out at night in the Red Fury Racer to scout them. The Outriders do attack again. Fireball tries to get back to RAMROD, but Gattler and the new Renegade unit are blocking his path.

While at a hotel trying to get a room, he meets Fireball, a race car driver who just won the Yuma Grand Prix. They also meet Colt, a bounty hunter, who is also looking for Vanquo. Colt finds Vanquo first and vaporizes him. Later an outpost is attacked. Saber, Fireball, and Colt are recruited by April to pilot the RAMROD unit against the Outriders' giant Renegade robot.

The Baron argues with the Star Sheriffs and orders them to leave. After doing some research, April believes that the Outriders may be causing the eruptions. Saber goes back to challenge the Baron to a duel. As the duel progresses, the volcano erupts. Fireball, Colt, and April fly RAMROD toward the volcano, and come face to face with the Outriders' latest Renegade Unit.

The Cavalry Command unit prepares to take action, but before they open fire, Fireball realizes that the mystery vehicle is that of a circus. Mr. Big Top, the ringmaster, introduces himself and invites them to the show. While patrolling along the river, Saber meets Lilah, one of the trapeze performers, and saves her from a scorpion attack. Lilah reveals that they are only performing one show at the outpost. When her partner, Damon, goes missing, Saber suspects Mr. Big Top may have a more sinister motive. Saber, Fireball, and Colt go undercover as part of the circus.

The Chief calls Saber Rider, who was a childhood friend and blood brother of Sleek Elk. The Star Sheriffs arrive and try to prevent a range war. Colt and Fireball agree to guard Spotted Calf, while Saber and the Chief search for who was really behind the attack. While on duty, a smoke grenade is lobbed into the jail. Colt and Fireball wake up in the cell, and Spotted Calf is missing. Saber Rider has a tomahawk duel with Sleek Elk to try to prevent a range war. Meanwhile, April stumbles upon a barn that reveals who is really behind everything.

He wants to trade the lives of Colt and Fireball for RAMROD.
