- TODD has a new motorcycle and ELIZABETH refuses to ride it. She says it's too dangerous. However, when JESSICA leaves her stranded at a party, Elizabeth gets on the bike in spite of the danger. On their way home, Elizabeth and Todd get into an accident. Todd is fine, but Elizabeth falls into a coma. Everyone is devastated. Jessica and Todd blame each other for the accident and they end up fighting about it until Elizabeth's comes out of the coma. However, Elizabeth is no longer herself - she's acting like Jessica! Elizabeth's near death experience has taught her to live life as if every day is her last. She abandons her chores (leaving them to Jessica), she blows off her schoolwork, breaks up with Todd and starts hanging out with BRUCE PATMAN. No one can figure her out. Todd is enraged and starts a fight with Bruce. During the scuffle, Jessica gets pushed into the path of an oncoming car. Luckily, she escapes injury, but seeing her sister in mortal danger reminds Elizabeth how precious life and loved ones can be.
- It's Halloween and time for all things spooky. BRUCE challenges the gang to spend the night at Sweet Valley High. Legend has it that a kid died there some years ago. The gang goes to the school completely unsuspecting that Bruce and MANNY have set up a world of horrors for them to encounter. However, Bruce's plans to scare his friends are foiled when the group finds him out and turns the tables - sending Bruce running all the way home.
- Inspired after watching a James Bond movie, Liz writes a spy novel starring herself and her friends. Deciding that women don't have enough of an active role in the adventure genre, she makes the females the stars and the males secondary.
- Sweet Valley High has decided to produce a weekly video news magazine. Everybody wants to be on its staff and they all prepare audition cassettes. ELIZABETH and JESSICA both want to be the anchorwoman. Elizabeth wants it because of her lifelong ambition to be a journalist; Jessica just thinks it would be cool to be on TV. Elizabeth makes an excellent tape and Jessica makes a horrible one. When Jessica sees her sister's tape, she decides to switch it with her own. Consequently, Jessica is chosen to host the show and Elizabeth is crushed. Of course, Jessica isn't able to write her own stories, so she begs Elizabeth to ghost write for her. Elizabeth concedes - until she finds out that Jessica deliberately switched tapes. With Jessica about to go on the air, Elizabeth shows up and tells Jessica to write her own stories. Jessica panics, goes on the air, can't say a single word and ends up handing the show over to Elizabeth.
- ELIZABETH, working on a photography assignment, accidentally takes a picture of some kidnappers. She tries to go to the police, but the picture was developed improperly and is not clear. Meanwhile, the kidnappers have mistaken JESSICA for Elizabeth and have plans to get the picture from her. Can Elizabeth provide the police with photographic evidence in time to catch the criminals and save her sister's life?
- THE PRINCE OF SANTA DORA is coming to Sweet Valley. JESSICA and LILA both vie for his attentions and Lila plans a huge banquet in his honor in order to impress him. Meanwhile, Jessica spends a whirlwind weekend with the Prince. At the banquet Lila reveals that the Prince will have an arranged marriage with a girl from an important Santa Doran family. However, the Prince is so impressed with Jessica's spirit and independence that he himself is inspired to defy his royal family's traditions. He asks Jessica to give him one more day to talk to his father. She agreed and they decide to meet the next evening at the pier. Unfortunately, the Prince doesn't show up because of an emergency back home and Jessica goes home furious. However, she receives a letter from him apologizing for his sudden departure. He tells her he cares for her a lot and he's sure they will meet again someday.
- JESSICA becomes jealous when ELIZABETH spends all her time with her boyfriend, TODD. A plan ensues to break-up the lovebirds. Jessica talks to Elizabeth into dating KRIS, a guy completely smitten with Liz. Liz decides she's not ready to see anyone and the devastated Kris takes revenge when he finds Elizabeth's diary and starts to tell everyone's darkest secrets. The gang is angry with Liz until the truth about Kris is revealed.
- JESSICA needs to get an "A" on her upcoming chemistry test or else she goes on academic probation and will be kicked off the cheerleading squad. In an act of desperation, she steals a copy of the test and gets her grade. But when her teacher becomes suspicious, she blames the crime on WINSTON EGBERT. Now Winston is suspended and it's up to ELIZABETH and her friends to come to his aid and clear his name.
- JESSICA, the two-time winner of the Pacific Freestyle dance competition, has no doubt she'll win top honors again this year - until FRANCO, her regular partner, is whisked away by MADONNA, the Queen herself. Desperate, Jessica settles on WINSTON as her new partner. Franco returns, and Winston is dumped and disappointed. LILA sabotages Jess by getting Franco a job on her family's cruise line. Jessica, once again in need of a partner, swipes LUIS, Lila's imported Latin dance champion. Lila teaches Jess a lesson by teaming with Winston to win the competition.
- JESSICA falls for the hot new art student at Sweet Valley High. DAKOTA DANCER is a very talented artist and when he offers to paint Jessica's portrait and show it at the Annual Sweet Valley Art Show, she can't resist bragging about it to everyone in school. She poses for him in a bikini at the beach. By the time the day of the art show arrives, everyone in school has shown up to see the portrait of Jessica. When the painting is unveiled, it portrays Jessica posing nude on the beach! Jessica is mortified because everyone in school thinks she posed for the portrait; and ELIZABETH is furious because her body is the same as Jessica's and she fells exposed as well. Jessica demands Dakota change the painting, but he refuses. Elizabeth confronts Dakota and captures on tape his confession that Jessica wasn't naked when he painted her. Jessica then invites him on a picnic, suggest they go skinny-dipping and when he drops his boxers, the gang capture him on film. Jessica and Elizabeth use the pictures to blackmail Dakota into painting a bikini on Jessica's portrait.
- Sweet Valley High is putting on its rendition of Shakespeare's Macbeth and JESSICA has the female lead. BUCE PATMAN'S UNCLE ANDY, the famous director, is coming to town. Jessica figures a good review will insure her a part in his next production, so she schemes a way for ELIZABETH to write the review. When the review comes out, Elizabeth has trashed Jessica and praised everyone else. And to top it off, LILA gets a part in Andy's project, while Jessica gets nothing. Jessica is destroyed. She blames Elizabeth for everything. Elizabeth goes to Andy, who never read the review, and gets her sister part. Meanwhile, Jessica takes matters into her own hands, and Lila runs into a little accident. On the day of the school, there is a problem. Lila's role involves dancing and her injuries won't permit it. Jessica, who thinks Lila has a bigger part, offers to trade. Andy goes for it and Lila ends up being the spokesperson for the Holden soup commercial while Jessica is the dancing tomato.
- Everyone is having problems with their new responsibilities during career week: WINSTON and KOICHI create a video game, TODD and LIZ become reporters for the Sweet Valley Tribune and JESSICA gets an internship with DANTE, the famous designer. Meantime, LIA goes to work at the Moon Beach Café and falls for HEATH, the delivery guy/aspiring chef. When Dante adds to his new line of clothes by stealing a design of Jessica's, the gang devises a plan to make him reveal the truth.
- It's Homecoming at Sweet Valley High and TODD and ELIZABETH have broken up. Elizabeth and JESSICA are both nominated for homecoming queen. Jessica is so sure she'll win that when the crown is placed on her sister's head, she is stunned. To top it off, Elizabeth catches the eye of SCOTT DANIELS, the college hunk Jessica is interested in. Jessica has no idea how she'll live this down. Meanwhile, the whole gang is hot in the trail of the mystery writer of the school's gossip column, "The Eyes and Ears." Tradition says, when caught, the writer gets thrown in the school pool. They're not quite sure, but rumor says it's Elizabeth. Scott Daniels, in the meantime, calls Elizabeth and asks her to a frat party. Unbeknownst to Elizabeth, Jessica poses as her and goes on the date in a misguided effort to win over Scott. Elizabeth, thinking she's been stood up, gives up on waiting and goes off to be alone. She runs into Todd and they make up. At the party, Scott has turned out to be a creep - he gets rough with Jessica so she bails, only to be rescued by Elizabeth and Todd. Elizabeth says she forgives Jessica, but Monday at school, she arranges for her twin to get dunked in the pool in her place.
- Will the real ENID ROLLINS please stand up? Love blossoms when Enid meets MIKE, Bridgewater High's football star, on the teen hotline. But when they finally meet, JESSICA poses as Enid. In order to get Mike back, Enid asks LIZ to impersonate Jessica, who has already passed herself off as Enid. Liz, as Jess (as Enid) completely disappoints Mike with her superficial ways. Spurned, Mike falls for the real Enid. Unfortunately, Mike still thinks Enid is Elisabeth. But when TODD inadvertently spoils the plan, Mike realizes the real Enid is the girl for him.
- Jessica has lost her chance to be on "Frankly Speaking" to Liz and her harrowing abduction. In the first few minutes of the broadcast, the news breaks that Peter Carpenter has escaped. A policeman has been assigned to each of the girls, but Jessica can't stand having a constant bodyguard and, alluding him, manages to get caught by Peter. Peter believes he has Liz until he see's Liz make a plea for Jessica's life on "Frankly Speaking". Peter contacts Elizabeth to make the switch. To safeguard himself, he sets up a timed death trap for Jessica. The police once again catch Peter, but now it's a race against the clock for the whole gang to find Jessica before it's too late.
- JESSICA doesn't share everyone's interest in poetry. That is, until she sees the new teacher. Jessica's infatuation turns into something much more serious when she misinterprets one of his poems. The rest of the gang can only watch as the old Jessica turns into the new Jessica. But the pot really begins to boil when she reads aloud a poem she believes to be anonymous.
- Much to TODD's dismay, while putting in long hours as a candy striper at Sweet Valley Hospital, Elizabeth befriends Peter Carpenter, a quiet orderly. Winston has taken up the rest of her time with a birthday project for his mother. When Jessica learns that one of Liz's patients is Jeremy Franks, the well known host of "Frankly Speaking", Jess "volunteers" to help herself get a co-host position on the talk show. Unfortunately for Jeremy, Jessica's ability as a candy stripper is nowhere near her sisters. Several accidents and a scheme or two later, Jeremy finally concedes to Jessica.
- Seventeen year old Nicholas Morrow has just moved to Sweet Valley. A man of mystery and money, Lila and Jessica are at it again going for the same guy. When Elizabeth doesn't show up to Nicholas' big party, Todd gets concerned. Jessica is far too caught up in Nicholas to worry about Elizabeth. Todd convinces Jess that they should call the police who find a suspect in Winston Egbert. Meanwhile, Peter Carpenter (the orderly Liz befriended at the hospital) has taken Elizabeth to an old cabin where he professes his love to her. Back at the Wakefields, the gang decides to cover Sweet Valley with "missing" fliers. The next day at the hospital Peter see's Jessica and thinks it's Liz. The police apprehend him and find that Liz has managed to escape on her own.
- Todd conceals from Liz that the rivalry between Sweet Valley and Pali High is going strong again. Manny, wanting to avoid the show-down, wears an arm-cast, but Todd sees through the ploy. Devon gives Liz an expensive necklace as an apology for brawling with Todd. When she tries to return it to him, he insists things will be different now. After spending a wonderful day together, Christian confesses to Jessica that the two schools are set for a show-down that night. In the girls' attempt to stop the fight, Jessica gets hurt accidentally, causing both sides to realize that fighting is wrong. Because of the brawl, Christian must return to the east coast to live with his mother, and Christian and Jessica say bittersweet good-bye.
- Liz offers to help Todd refurbish his boat and be his date for the Catalina Boat Festival. The two plans to spend a romantic weekend together in Catalina, until Liz finds out she is receiving the Tribune Junior Writing Award. Todd can't hide his disappointment that Liz always ends up putting her activities first. Liz takes notice of his resentment and decides to meet Todd for the festival after all. Teen-Girl magazine sponsors a "Fab Feast" contest that has Lila and Jessica engaged in cut-Throat competition to see who can throw the best party. The two end up sabotaging each other's parties. Lila gets the last laugh when Jessica is awarded "Best Geek Fest."
- Everyone has their doubts about LIZ and TODD staying together when Todd receives a basketball scholarship to Vermont's Fairmont Prep School, which is 300 miles away. The distance proves fatal to their relationship. When ELIZABETH unknowingly cuts in on NICHOLAS, JESSICA'S love interest, Jess needs to bring Todd and Liz back together.
- Devon and Jessica kiss, but they deny their feelings for each other the next day. Jessica meets Marco Giovanni, a psychopath who pretends to be a fashion photographer so he can seduce naive girls. Devon warns Jessica about Marco, but she thinks Devon is just jealous. Jessica falls for Marco's lines about her being his next big discovery. He lures her to his photo studio and comes on to her. Luckily, Devon arrives just in time so save Jessica. Liz is blatantly jealous because she thinks Todd and Renata have gotten a little too friendly with each other.
- Sweet Valley High's female fashion-slaves protest the School board's proposal to institute a more conservative dress code. The girls gather signatures on a petition against the proposed mandatory dress code, which convinces the School Board to abandon the proposal. Winston finds love over the Internet when he meets Petunia on-line. The two agree to meet so Winston faxes his best Photo, which happens to be one of him with Todd. The fax doesn't go through completely, and only Todd's half goes through, leading Petunia to think Winston is Todd! Petunia shows up at school and asks a girl to help her find him. Coincidentally, that girl is Liz, who assumes Todd has been cheating on her. A confused Todd bears the wrath of both Petunia and Liz until matters are cleared up when Petunia and Winston finally meet.
- Enid and Manny learn that they may be related, and stop dating until they know for sure. Todd sees the end of his basketball career flash before his eyes when he finds a copy of an impending mid-term. Cheating means expulsion, so he and Winston break into school after hours to put the exam back in the teacher's desk. The two get caught on their honorable quest, but Todd decides the penalty of community service is no big deal compared to being kicked off the team and out of school. When rock star Rex Laundry comes to town, Jessica will do anything to see him. While being cited for a moving violation, she pretends she's Liz so that she doesn't miss a chance to see the rock star live. A confused Liz is assigned community service, and after discovering the real criminal, tricks her sister into thinking they're going to see Rex. Jessica is miffed when she ends up in an orange jumpsuit to pick trash with other offenders.
- Sweet Valley High revs up for the big basketball game with their arch rival, Pali High. It just happens that Jessica's ex-boyfriend, Christian, is their star player which incites problems amongst the gang. Renata is driving Todd crazy with her frivolous ways, and she misinterprets Todd's attempt at a break-up with her as him wanting to throw her a party. Desperate to be on the cheerleading squad so she can be near Todd for the big game, Renata "accidentally" punches one of the cheerleaders in the nose, which increases her chances of making the squad. Sweet Valley celebrates their victory, but the joint dance between the two schools may not be as celebratory - bitter Pali High students have spray-painted Todd's car.
- After some Pali High brawlers ambush Todd and his friends, Todd vows to even the score and recruits Sweet Valley guys with muscle-power for that purpose. Tempers flare over Jessica's forbidden romance with Christian, a Pali High jock. Banished from the cheerleading squad and snubbed by her peers, Jessica's loyalties are torn and she considers switching schools to be with Christian. When Todd and Christian's peace summit turns ugly, the celebratory truce party looks doubtful.
- Winston plans to attend a model plane expo and Todd makes fun of him along with his jock buddies. Enid opens Todd's eyes to his cruel treatment of Winston, and all is forgiven when Todd steps up to defend Winston in front of the jocks. Jessica talks to Liz into auditioning for a cosmetics commercial that is seeking spunky twin siblings. They win the role on the spot, but Jessica is dismayed when Liz refuses to do the commercial because the company supports animal testing. When Jessica can't find a replacement for Liz, they lose the job. But not all is lost when the gang gathers at the Moonbeach to watch a new commercial that features the twins advocating the cosmetics company's more humane competitor.
- Devon becomes the prime suspect in his parents' death when police re-open the investigation and discover new evidence. Reporters flock to Sweet Valley, hoping to learn more about the murder suspect, Devon Whitelaw. Principal Copper urges all students to decline interviews and respect Devon's right to privacy. Jessica seizes the opportunity to get into media spotlight by leaking information to reporters. Devon's therapist helps him remember key facts about the tragedy and tells his family Lawyer, Sam Wainwright, that he remembers someone else on the boat the night of the fire.
- Devon suddenly remembers that the other person on the yacht the night of the tragic fire was their attorney, Sam Wainwright. Sam panics when he hears Devon can identify him as the murderer. He kidnaps Liz and tells Devon to meet him on the dock alone, or he'll never see Liz alive again. The gang rallies to help rescue Liz and the police capture Sam. Case closed.
- The girls plan a ski weekend, and Liz defeats Jessica in the Woman's Downhill, thus defending her title for the second consecutive year. Jessica blames her loss in equipment failure and challenges Liz to a race down the dangerous Grizzly Trail to determine once and for all who the better skier is. Liz loses control on some ice and is knocked unconscious, spraining her leg in the fall. A storm rolls in and Ski Patrol fails to find the twins. To everyone's relief, Jessica appears in the distance supporting her injured sister. Meanwhile, Manny worries that Enid will forget about him while she's at Big Bear, so he convinces Todd to drive him there to keep an eye on her. Manny's heart sinks when he sees Enid with Chip, a ski lodge employee. He assumes the worst, but is relieved to find Enid showing Chip pictures of her and Manny. Liz is pleasantly surprised to see Todd, but can't muster her pride to ask him to stay, so her drives back to Sweet Valley.

- Bruce, whose ancestors founded Sweet Valley, is putting on an exhibit about exploring the town's history. But when Liz discovers an old diary about the towns history, trouble ensures.
- Jessica tells Liz she's found true love with Devon Whitelaw. However, when Jessica and Devon attend a party together, she is shocked to find Liz and Devon kissing in another room later that evening. Jessica confronts Liz later at home and is assured by Liz that Devon kissed her and she was not trying to steal him away from her. Meanwhile, Renata asks Todd to help her learn how to drive so she can pass her driver's test. But it's not so much the driver's license Renata's after - she has a monster crush on Todd. When she finds out Liz was kissing Devon, Renata figures she will soon have Todd all to herself. Liz welcomes Devon's advances in Physics class and the two end up kissing yet again, leaving Jessica wondering how things with Mr. Right could not go so wrong.
