It's the Old Testament story of Moses among the bulrushes; how his mother, confronted with an edict to kill all the boy babies, placed the infant in a basket by the Nile, whence he was rescued by an Egyptian princess, who raised him as her child.
Henri Andreani's movie has a formal air to it that reminds me of Bible pageants. For the year it was released, that makes it a bit old-fashioned. That's not unusual. The audience was expected to be familiar with the story, and therefore the style is supposed to install a bit of familiar importance to it. Bible movies have long been conservative film making, with such techniques as extensive titles - usually quoting from the Bible - in use well past the silent era.
