Adaptation of a Play
The mark of Griffith getting better as a director is when he adapts prose onto the screen. 'The Escape' was an adaptation of a play by Paul Armstrong and it opened at the Cort Theatre, New York on June 1st 1914. Parts of it was shot in New York, but the rest of it was completed on the West Coast.
