Judy ( Bessie Love ) keeps house for her father, the Reverend Deady, ( Spottiswoode Aitken ) and younger sister Abigail, ( Pauline Starke ). When mean-spirited Harriet Gray ( Josephine Crowell ) forecloses on the mortgage of the orphanage, the kind Deady's open their home to seven poor orphans. Judy is now forced to find another job, due to the financial strain on the family. She learns that Mrs. Gray is looking for a male servant, so Judy disguises herself as a boy and is given the job. Her economical management of the household greatly impresses Mrs. Gray and when it is discovered she is not a boy, this impresses Horace ( Kenneth Harlan ) Mrs. Gray's son. When Judy foils an attempted burglary of the Gray home, a happy ending ensues, Judy and Horace are married.

This simple story featuring the popular actress Bessie Love is now a presumed lost silent film. Fans of Mary Pickford will recognize actress Josephine Crowell who played crabby Aunt Miranda in Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm the same year as Cheerful Givers, 1917.
