  • I had the fortunate opportunity to view this film at the Cinemathéque Française in Paris last June. It is a silent film, and the subtitles were in French, so I didn't understand everything that was going on, but the film is truly beautiful.

The story revolves around a man who is brought a small, magical figurine named Narayana who brings him bad luck after she is stolen.

The film is truly great, especially considering it's time. The director effectively used many effects such as double imaging that turned out amazingly well for 1920.

If you ever get the chance to view this film, do so. Not for the story, but for it's triumphs in film-making.
