Mickey Mouse, piloting a steamboat, delights his passenger, Minnie, by making musical instruments out of the menagerie on deck.
Before the copyright for "Steamboat Willie" was set to expire in 2003, Disney lobbied the US Congress successfully for an extension of copyright protection by twenty years. Because of this law, "Steamboat Willie" will not enter the public domain until 2023.

After Mickey tosses the cat and it hits the trashcan lid, the lid disappears.
After Mickey pulls nursing piglets in tune to music, he removes them and plays on their mother's teats like an accordion. This scene has been deleted for Mickey's 25th Anniversary theatrical release in 1953.
