Since it's routine for films of this period, set twenty years in the past, to have actresses wear the styles of the year in which the movie is made, this film deserves a mention for being, unusually, true to the time in which it is set. One of very rare films where actor Pat O'Brien plays the role of a bad person. In this film his role is of a criminal.
The film takes place in 1912, 1916 and 1931.
One of over 700 Paramount productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since.
