  • This crude musical doesn't prop up the reputation of Richard Oswald who is known better in Europe than in English speaking countries.

The obscure lead, who they want us to believe is a simple fisherman, is lured away from his uncomplicated life to concert hall fame, by the blonde piece from RÉGLES DE JEU who finally abandons him for juvenile Rilla. The most interesting element is the depiction of Lido high life.

Comic Sakall does much the same thing he would in his Hollywood days without being well served by his material.

The broken record scene is a hoot. I used to use it as an example of the difference between "encore" and "une autre."
