  Diana : Just now, I thought I was dead too. But, we're not. We're alive! Richard, we're alive.

  Bogard : Countries are such silly things, aren't they? Just places on maps with... exports and tariffs and queer places to visit. They don't mean much to you till you get tied up with them through people.

• McGinnis : [when getting ready to take Claude, who's never been in a plane before, flying, and a soldier has just asked if Claude wants coffee]  No, he doesn't. Get something else instead of that. Coffee makes such a confounded stain on the wings.

  Claude : On the wings?

  [puzzled] 

  Claude : Why coffee on the wings?

  McGinnis : Well, you see-...

  Bogard : [interrupts]  Stow it, Mac. Come on.

  McGinnis : [to the bartender]  Gimme a bottle, Dave.
