Like the anonymous novel (generally credited to Rex Stout) upon which it is based, the photoplay tells how a peace-loving President prevents his country from being stampeded into a European war.
The on screen end credits identify Martha Mayo as Mrs. Delling, but the review in Weekly Variety, 11 December 1934, lists Clara Blandick. In the print viewed, Mrs. Delling, the wife of the delicatessen owner, is mentioned by name, but never seen, so the answer as to which actress plays the role remains a mystery.

One of the businessmen says that 400,000 casualties resulted from World War I. In fact, there were less than a third of that number, and about half of those died from disease (in the influenza epidemic), not in combat.
