The ups and downs of Florenz Ziegfeld Jr., famed producer of extravagant stage revues, are portrayed.
In the film, Anna Held is said to be French, but she was actually a German Jew born in Warsaw, Poland in 1872. The family fled to France in 1881.
Florenz Ziegfeld Jr.:
How do you expect Miss Brice to sing a sad song about her man, dressed up like a nightingale? I find personalities, and you try to destroy them. I didn't engage Miss Brice as a showgirl.
Clarence: Is that all right, Mr. Ziegfeld?
Florenz Ziegfeld Jr.: Well, it's all right for now....
During the circus number, each dog moves forward into a box painted on the floor of the stage. The second dog from the right moves forward out of the box, then is seen back in the box in the next shot.
The opening credits display the title of the film and the names of the stars in marquee lights, as they would be on Broadway.
