In 1936 in the united states It got a poor review form the New York times.It was just an excuse to demote, possibly to get back at Emil Janning for serving the Nazi dictatorship and because of the dictatorship itself where it came from.He wasn't objective.Emil Jannings plays director professor Niemeyer who is not tough with his students at the boarding high dorms.This results in one of his students Kurt, played by Hannes Stelzer, having a one night stand with an older actress,who is engaged, played by Hilda Von Stolze, which creates a scandal in the boarding high school.With problems that the professor has at home.A young wife,played by Hilde Weissner as Jadwiga, Yadviga,or Yadvija?, who is taking advantage of him as a sugar daddy husband, while having an affair with his son Fritz,played by Harold Paulsen.Stalwart German character actor Hans Bruaswetter, the only actor who spoke out against the Nazis, plays Falk an Attorney at law.Another German actor stalwart who's in it Herbert Hubner, with his nasal twang voice, and Ernst Waldow. Hans Richter as a student Count Franz.There's a scene in it where all the students are in a basement to have their private club, where they sneak in some beer, as if it were coming out of the Student Prince.Well The law get's in on it and Hilda is question by the police as well as Stelzer.This leads to the professor finding out that his wife is cheating on him with his son and leads to Stelzer committing suicide. The professor realizes that he should of been a little bit more tough with his students .
