This Amedeo Nazzari vehicle, one of seven he made in 1939, is a curious stab at making a screwball comedy within the prison genre.And the prison is in America, with Nazzari as a dangerous gangster who is mistakenly set loose.
There is no attempt to make the US prison system look realistic and several plot points (including a twist ending) are bizarre and surrealistic but that only adds to the charm of the film.
