Stuart's one and only wife was Flora Cooke, the daughter of the commander of the 2nd U.S. Dragoon Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Philip St. George Cooke (not,as depicted in the film, "Kit Carson Holliday", described as the daughter of Cyrus Holliday, the founder of the Atchison & Topeka Railroad (which was soon renamed the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad). Cyrus Holliday had one daughter, named Lillie.
