This was the very first time a Dr. Seuss book was adapted for animation.
But, Maysie, by this time was far beyond reach, enjoying the sunshine way off in Palm Beach, and having such fun, such a wonderful rest.

In the original version of this short, a fish, with the personality and caricature resembling Peter Lorre spots Horton sitting in a tree, turns to the camera, says "Well, now I've seen everything." then pulls out a pistol and shoots himself in the head. In most prints shown today, the suicidal clip, when the fish shoots itself is edited out.
