Most spirits are honest, gentle and kind, and only want to bring happiness to humans. But a few are evil and, having been wicked in life, are wicked in death, and only haunt the scenes of desperate crimes, reveling in murder.
After Dr Randall's butler is murdered the newspaper headline spells the word 'Clue' as 'Clew'. The latter is an old-fashioned spelling of "Clue" that was still occasionally used in the early 20th century.
At the end of the film a mysterious character who has appeared intermittently throughout the film introduces himself as "the author of the story" and winds up a car window with the words "THE END" printed on it.
