The Last Will And Testament Of Tom Smith is a wartime propaganda short subject film that has stood the test of time. With a minimum of flag waving it tells the story of downed American pilot who is scheduled to be shot in a similar fashion as those downed fliers in the first Doolittle raid as demonstrated in The Purple Heart.

George Reeves plays the flier and the film is mostly occupied with his memories of civilian life, of girlfriend Barbara Britton, of his grandfather Lionel Barrymore and even the town mailman Walter Brennan. He's given a chance to write a letter and with the death sentence coming it is in effect his last will and testament.

This one had good performances all around and why not with a pair of scene stealers like Barrymore and Brennan. Reeves reminds his captors that many more are coming.

Many more did.
