Trivia

Was remade in 1975 as a TV movie called Returning Home (1975) with Dabney Coleman, Tom Selleck and James R. Miller as the returning soldiers and Whitney Blake, Joan Goodfellow, Sherry Jackson and Laurie Walters as the wives and sweethearts. Miller, like Harold Russell, was chosen to play Homer because Miller lost his hands fighting in Viet Nam.

Quotes

Al Stephenson: I'm glad to see you've all pulled through so well. As Mr. Milton so perfectly expressed it: our country stands today... where it stands today... wherever that is. I'm sure you'll all agree with me if I said that now is the time for all of us to stop...

Goofs

When the three war veterans board the B-17, the insignia on the side of the fuselage is correct for post-World War II (after September 1945), a white star on a blue disc with white bars on the left and right sides of the disc. However, when the B-17 is taking off, there is a brief glimpse of just a white star on a blue disc with no white side bars, the official insignia used from August 1942 to June 1943.

Crazy Credits

Only twelve cast members are listed in the opening credits. Cathy O'Donnell receives an "and introducing" credit before her name. Victor Cutler, who plays Woody, is listed last in the opening credits but does not appear in the cast list of 23 names in the end credits.

Alternate Versions

The film was modified to play on a wide screen and reissued on February 3, 1954.
