The character of Judy Martin and her development of an outdoor theatre for a performance of "The Tempest" is based on the activities of Rowena Cade (1893 - 1983) and the Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Cade developed the Minack Theatre and produced the first performance of "The Tempest" there in 1932. The actual Minack Theatre was used as a location for the film.
