In this film, directed by António Lopes Ribeiro, we see the conflicting relationship of Eduardo (António Vilar) and vaudeville actress Isabel (Madalena Sotto) be affected by the sudden passion he feels for the neighbor, Mariana (Carmen Dolores), a young overprotected by his godmother Adelaide (Lucilia Simões), and the unexpected visit of his uncle Placido (Fernandes Nascimento), a false moralistic moral teacher. In this film also enters the concierge Jerome (Ribeirinho) and Mr. Saraiva (Antonio Silva), who constantly cheats on his wife.
Its a classic of Portuguese cinema, timeless and delicious, which has enchanted generations. Some of its scenes are laughing uproariously. The situation discusses topics related to morality in marriage: "the role and duties of man as breadwinner" as pompously says Plácido. The film base is therefore the correction of two situations that were deeply immoral at the time: a couple living together without being married, and a husband who cheats on his wife. The characters undergo a moral correction, which conveys to the audience the traditional moral values desired.
