Close-Up is a feature that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. Agnieszka Holland's Spoor, which is receiving an exclusive global online premiere on Mubi, is showing from September 11 – October 10, 2019 in Mubi's Luminaries series.Near the end of Spoor, Agnieszka Holland’s 2017 Silver Bear-winning feature, a jittery woman recalls a local legend that used to frighten her as a child. The story of the Night Hunter, a spirit in pursuit of evil people, becomes a parable for the entire film as a whole folkloric act of justice, when members of the small Polish town’s hunting party disappear under mysterious circumstances. Melding its whodunit narrative with uncanny suspects, the film takes a critical stance on the human-animal relationship. Through an unsettling portrayal of hunting rituals intertwined with murder mystery, Spoor questions pre-supposed hierarchical structures, be it that of man over woman, or of human over animal. Despite being drawn up...

British broadcaster Channel 4 has found its man to lead its youth revolution – hiring Karl Warner, founder of Sony-backed producer Electric Ray as head of E4.
Warner, who founded the Million Pound Menu and Alone at Home producer in 2014, becomes Controller of the youth-skewing channel, best known for series such as reality hit Made In Chelsea.
This comes after C4’s Director of Programmes Ian Katz handed the channel an additional budget of £10M (Us$13.4M).
Katz called Warner, a colorful character in British television, known for wearing garish jackets, one of the most “impish” figures in the UK industry. Before setting up Electric Ray, alongside Meredith Chambers, he worked at the BBC, commissioning series such as John Bishop’s Britain, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Live at the Apollo for BBC One and Undercover Princes, Russell Howard’s Good News and Junior Doctors for BBC Three. Before joining the public broadcaster,...

TV ratings may not be what they used to be, thanks to DVRs, cable, and the Internet, but there suddenly seem to be signs of hope for good, old-fashioned broadcast prime time, the likes of which we haven't seen in several seasons: After a few years of general major-network doom and gloom (and an Emmy broadcast riddled with jokes about the declining industry), CBS and Fox are actually up for the first week of the new season, Hollywood Wiretap reports (7 percent and 35 percent respectively). ABC's down only a scant 4 percent, and that doesn't include the premieres of Sunday hits Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters.
