Rip Caxton (I. Stanford Jolley) escapes from a convict road gang and seeks out Sheriff Bill Devery (Steve Clark), the man responisble for his conviction. U.S. Marshal Harlan G. Thayer (Henry Hall) sends Marshal Eddie Dean (Eddie Dean) and his pal Soapy Jones (Roscoe Ates) after Caxton. The trail leads to Silver Springs, where Caxton has brutally murdered Devery and joined forces with local bad man Clark Varney (Douglas Fowley), and they have appointed Josh Huckings (Lee Roberts) as the new sheriff. They plan to kill Devery's daughter, Martha (Peggy Wynn), and take over the Devery ranch to use as a base for their cattle-rustling operation. Learning that Caxton wears a polka-dot hatband as a trademark, Eddie has Soapy wear a similar one, figuring that Caxton will come out into the open to investigate a rival. The townspeople mistake Soapy as the wanted outlaw and jail him. On a visit to the Devery Ranch, Eddie meets Martha and her hired hands (The Sunshine Boys) and devises a plan to capture Caxton and the gang. Caxton, planning to use Soapy as a lure to trap Eddie, frees him. Eddie escapes the trap by beating the truth out of the crooked sheriff, and
