A potentially violent screenwriter is a murder suspect until his lovely neighbor clears him. But she begins to have doubts.
There is a moment in the trailer for the film that doesn't appear in the final cut. As Laurel is talking to the detective at the end of the film, Dix starts to leave. In the "lost moment", Laurel calls out Dix's name and they have one last embrace on the steps before he descends.
Oh, I love a picnic. Acres and acres of sand and all of it in your food.
Laurel Gray: Stop griping. Just lie still and inhale.
Dixon Steele: What, sand?
Laurel Gray: No, air - and don't let it go to your head.
As Steele and Mildred walk through the gate of his apartment building, she has only her purse, hanging from her arm. When they enter the courtyard after passing through the gate, she is clutching both her purse and the book, tucked in the crook of her arm.
