Three friends struggle to find work in Paris. Things become more complicated when two of them fall in love with the same woman.
This is one of the few Best Picture Oscar winners to not only not win a single Academy Award for acting, but to also fail to receive a single Oscar nomination for any of its actors.
This is Paris, and I'm an American who lives here. My name is Jerry Mulligan, and I'm an ex G.I. In 1945 when the army told me to find my own job, I stayed on. And I'll tell you why: I'm a painter, and all my life that's all I've ever wanted to do.
Just after the "Our Love is Here to Stay" dance Lise rushes off to met Henri at the stage door. Henri introduces her to an American producer who has invited him to perform in America. As soon as the producer leaves, Lise starts to apologize to Henri for being late. If you listen very closely, you'll notice that she starts speaking in French ("Je ....") She immediately catches herself and continues in English, "I'm sorry." Since both actors were Francophones, in real life they would naturally have conversed in French.
