During excavations in Stockholm in 2248, old film footage from the 1940s is found. The Research Group for Ancient Films tries to arrange the finds into a movie, while guessing the original director's intentions.
Clips from no less than 17 previous Hasse Ekman films edited together to form a new story, with Ekman himself as narrator and a newly shot prologue.
No credits are shown on-screen, except for the fictional "Föreningen för Fornfilm Forskning presenterar" (The Society for Ancient Film Research presents) and the title. The characters are introduced by narrator Hans Hasseson Ekman (Hasse Ekman).
