Western stories and legends based, and filmed, in and around Death Valley, California. One of the longest-running Western series, originating on radio in the 1930s. The continuing sponsor was "20 Mule Team" Borax, a product formerly mined in Death Valley.
In 1964, past episodes were retitled and syndicated under the title "The Pioneers", hosted by Will Rogers, Jr.
The forms of dress worn by the characters rarely corresponded with those worn in the 19th century. This included pants with belt loops, men's shirts with full buttons down their front and women often not wearing bonnets or hats when outside.
