John Wayne played football at USC under coach Howard Jones in 1925-26, with technical advisor Jeff Cravath being among his teammates. In 1927 Cravath became an assistant coach, with assistant director Russell Saunders being among the team's star players through 1929. Cravath was again an assistant coach from 1935 to 1937, when Bill Radovich (Moose McCall) was on the team.
Steve Williams:
You just gotta quit looking at me like I was George Washington, Babe Ruth and Florence Nightingale all rolled into one.
Buck Holman (James Flavin) tells Father Burke (Charles Coburn) that Steve Williams was "kicked out of the game" a few years previously. However, he clearly says, "kicked out of the LEAGUE", and the change in audio is recognizable. Apparently, someone didn't want the Ivy League to have ever been associated with a coach of questionable character.
