• Amytis : Tell me General, have you conquered a great many cities?

  Hannibal : More than I can remember.

  Amytis : How do you go about it? I mean, what's it like?

  Hannibal : Well, there are no hard and fast rules in warfare, but I'd say the first thing is to make a complete survey of the enemy.

  Amytis : Oh, yes.

  Hannibal : Know his strength as you know your own. Then deploy your forces.

  Amytis : What does that mean?

  Hannibal : Put them in the right position.

  Amytis : Oh. Oh, I see. Put them in the right position.

  Hannibal : Then, uh, then when you've deployed sufficiently, you, uh, you make a feint at his strength.

  Amytis : I don't understand.

  Hannibal : Well, you, uh, pretend to attack, but you don't. You, uh, fall back instead.

  Amytis : Ahh. You fall back instead. Yes.

  Hannibal : Then, uh, when he advances, you encircle him. You strike at his weakness. Hard and quick.

  Amytis : Suppose he has no weakness?

  Hannibal : That would be very unusual.

  Amytis : It sounds exciting.

  Hannibal : It is.

• Amytis : Relax. Relax! We'll never get there unless you relax. Come on. There now. Isn't that easy? You see what I mean?

  Hannibal : You're going to die.

  Amytis : Yes, Yes, I'm going to die. But, not until tomorrow.

• Hannibal : You led me into a trap!

  Amytis : I led you into nothing!

  Hannibal : A whole detachment of Roman soldiers! How did they know I was there?

  Amytis : The way you were singing at the top of your lungs, all Rome knew you were there!

• Amytis : You don't want a mate. You want a slave. Just something else to exhibit with all the rest of your bloodstained loot!

• Amytis : How could a man be so brilliant in war and so stupid in peace?

• Amytis : What is the fate of one woman compared to the safety of a whole city?

• Amytis : Listen, when my father died, he made Fabius my protector. There was nothing I could do. It was marry him or become a Vestal Virgin.

  [Hannibal laughs] 

  Amytis : You don't know Roman law.

  Hannibal : No, but I know Roman women.

• Amytis : People, do not grieve. It's better that I go with this fiend than to allow our lovely city to perish at his foul hands. And, so, with pride I give my all, that Rome may stand, though I may fall.
