  • Would see anything by Disney, being such a big fan. Not just of Disney but animation as well. Would see anything starring or even featuring Donald Duck, one of Disney's greatest creations and one of my favourite animated characters. He has such an entertaining and interesting personality that is unlike any character from Disney or even in animation, both in Disney's "golden era" and now. On a side note, Clarence Nash will always be the best voice actor for Donald but Tony Anselmo also does a great job with Donald and emulates the spirit of the character very well.

'Donald Duck Visits Lake Titicaca' is not one of the best Donald Duck cartoons, from honest opinion. Saw it through it being one of the segments from 'Saludos Amigos', although that is a fun though uneven film 'Donald Duck Visits Titicaca' always stuck out as one of its better segments if mainly for the end. Did like it more than the previous reviewer did respectfully, and do enjoy it on the whole while having my issues with it.

Its weak point is the story, which is really a series of scenes making up an animated travelogue set to narration. The content itself is nice and lively but the story does not have one jumping out of their chair by any stretch. There is not much hilarious here either.

The narration for me evoked mixed reactions. Really liked the interaction between it and Donald, Fred Shields delivers it beautifully and it does nicely in entertaining and educating. Part of me did feel though that there could have been less of it and it occasionally drags things down.

However, the animation is bright and colourful, with lots of meticulous detail and nice drawing. The music is highly characterful and lushly orchestrated, enhancing the action, gestures and expressions with ease and capturing the spirit of South America well.

Did find myself entertained enough and on first viewing it did educate me, still see the educational value now. There is energy, did like the interaction with the narrator and Donald and Donald as ever shows why he is such an iconic character. 'Donald Duck Visits Lake Titicaca's' best sequence, and the best thing about it, is with the llama. It's a hilarious gem of a sequence and the only scene of the cartoon to be called that. In my mind too, the llama steals the show from under Donald, it is very difficult for anything or anyone to outshine Donald so that was quite a surprise.

Altogether, nice diversion but not great. 7/10
  • This is a narrated Disney short featuring Donald Duck while he is on a trip to South America. We see him spending time in a street market and trying to mingle with the crowd - quite meaningful, but not very entertaining. The most exciting part of the cartoon is when Donald takes a llama up into the mountains, trying to cross a treacherous suspension bridge.

Overall, it's a rather mediocre cartoon - not much laughs or appealing moments. The narration really makes the story sound lazy and unexciting. But, we still get to see some classic Donald temper moments.

    Grade D+
