  • My first Pedro Infante movie. I was not expecting his performance to remind me so much of the mannerisms and behavior of people I encountered during my visits to Mexico when I was younger. I felt like I knew him. He's funny, convincing, and that voice--wow! The sexist, nonchalant attitudes towards infidelity from pretty much every man associated to Pablo were so annoying to sit through, but accurate reflections of machismo culture. Pablo makes attempts to redeem his machista views when he realizes he's in love with Carolina, and although his acts were cute, they felt ritualistic. So much so that by the end, I'm not so convinced that he's a changed man. The tragedy is that Carolina, strong and assertive as she started out, seems not to see it. Regardless, it was heart-warming, enjoyable, funny, and definitely a comforting watch.
