  • I think this was really my favourite of all these swashbuckling series as a child, I think I loved it even more than the Adventures of Robin Hood. Edmund Purdom is Marco del Monte, the Robin Hood figure, a Renaissance artist who is equally at home with a paintbrush or a sword, and is always in opposition to Lorenzo de Medici (the Sheriff of Nottingham figure). Medici is always plotting something to the disadvantage of the people of Florence, but is always outwitted by the dashing Marco. Marco's love life is somewhat more complex than that of Robin Hood. Not only does he have a dashing girlfriend, Angelica, a pickpocket turned artist's model, but he also has a bit of thing for Francesca, Lorenzo de Medici's charming and mischievous younger sister. the question of which of these two ladies he prefers is never resolved, you can use your imagination. I had doubts about watching this after all these years, but find it still charming and amusing, it has really worn very well.
